We drove out of Titus's territory. Without Max. All of us were in a rage. Especially Jesse who didn't really like the fact that we made Emelia sound like that.

"We have to do certain harmless little things for everyone's good." I told him. But Jesse remained angry and annoyed. He didn't say it but, by the expression on his face, I knew he was as livid as ever. I was glad he knew better than to go mouthing off.

Titus had ensured that we would leave his territory without fuss. Nearly a hundred of his wolves escorted us well beyond the boundaries. They outnumbered us. Basically, they outpowered us in every way.

Liam, I heard Zander connect with me through mind link that pack members have with each other.

Did you find her? I asked.

No, but I have some good news, he said, some rogues are holding Cody hostage. They're asking for the reward we offered.

Get him then! I told him. I want Cody as soon as possible.

I'm on it.

We needed Cody more than ever now. If Zander could bring Cody back then we could exchange him for Max. I felt sure than Emelia would want her brother back

And I was even more sure of the fact that Titus wouldn't turn her down.

But how would I be able to deal with Max? He would never forgive me for striking a deal like that. He wanted Cody dead.

If only Max hadn't been stupid enough to run off and threaten Titus...

Once we got back home, I told all the wolves to leave, except Jesse and Paul. I didn't want anybody to know that we had finally got Cody. I didn't want them to know that we had to let that traitor go alive to save Max.

"How long will it take for Zander to get back?" Paul asked me.

"I don't know yet," I told him.

"Do you really think we'll be able to hide Cody from everyone else?" This was Jesse. He looked more worried than Paul. Or even me.

"We have to," I sighed, "for Max."

"Max hasn't been much of an Alpha lately," Jesse murmured under his breath. But wolves had enhanced hearing, especially wolves with Alpha blood, so I heard him loud and clear.

"You better watch what you're saying!"

"But I am right! We'll be plunging into war because of his idiocy!"

"Idiocy? That's your Alpha you're talking about!"

"Unfortunately, he is," Jesse looked livid, "but he doesn't deserve it! He never did!"

Before I realized what I was doing, I rolled my hand into a fist and punched Jesse as hard as I could.

"Jesse!" Paul quickly went to Jesse's aid, who lay injured on the floor.

"Are you out of your mind, Liam?" Paul spat.

"He'll be fine," I said, with scorn in my voice.

"He will but you need to control yourself."

"I don't fucking care about what-"

"He's your friend," Paul said, softly, "just like Max was mine. Serill pack is facing a lot of problems right now and the last thing we need is internal conflict."

I sighed. I knew that Paul was right. I couldn't bring anymore problems onto the pack. I wasn't going to become Max. My emotions would never take over my senses.
