My eyes flutter open to see the grey sky replaced by a dark navy blue one. My earphones had played all my songs on my playlist while I was sleeping so all I can hear is the loud grumble of the plane. I get a notebook out of my bag and start doodling to pass time. As I do so, my eyes catch my watch. 9:30. I assume we will be landing soon... Damn, how long was I asleep? Sure enough, a calm voice comes from the speakers and announces that we will be landing shortly. I take this time to gather my things and bundle them into my bag before zipping it tightly, making sure I won't lose or forget anything.
After a smooth landing, I'm the first in the isle, everyone else seems just to be awakening from slumber. I exit through the terminal and are greeted by my aunt Clara. She's a unique woman who is in her late 30s. Following close behind her is her daughter, Emma, a petite girl (like me) with long brown hair. She's very excitable and bubbly and we used to be so close before she moved away...
"Serena!" Emma yells, budging past her Mom and concealing me in a hug.
"Hi" I reply with a happy tone.
Aunt Clara frowns at Emma as she pulls away from our embrace. Emma looks at her shoes and mumbles an apology. Clara then steps forward and kisses me from cheek to cheek.
"Hello my darling, Serena, did you have a nice flight?" She asked in a fake posh tone.
"It was good. I slept through most of it, though" I say "but I'm really hungry." With that, she takes both mine and Emma's wrist and leads us to an airport McDonalds. We all got a mayo chicken even though I wanted more. I felt bad because she said she would pay. Munching on our burgers, we entered the car park and that's when the sun hit me and I had to grab my shades. I took of my hoodie and Clara insisted she carried it. The car park was huge so it took 10 minutes just to reach their car. I collapse onto the backseat while Emma and Clara take the front.
It was silent for a while as we drove along until Emma burst out, making me jump a little.
"Oh! Serena I have a massive surprise for you, we're going to-" she was cut off by Clara who cupped one of her hands onto Emma's mouth.
"Be patient, Emma, you agreed we would wait until dinner." My face grew wide with curiosity.
"What is it?" I question, in hope it would convince them to spill. Nope.
"I told you. You have to wait" Clara replied in a jolly tune. I let the subject drop, leaving silence once again.
"We're home!" They both chime at me. I give them a small smile before getting out. I heave my luggage up before they could help me and I make my way to the guest room. I start to unpack when Emma walks into the room. She brings me forward and whispers in my ear.
"The surprise is, we have tickets to The Hunger Games Mockingjay premiere and, me being the amazing cousin I am, has decided to take you along with me." I pull away in disbelief, debating wether she was joking with me or not. My mouth drops open and I stare at her as she gives me the details. "We're gonna get there as early as my Mum will let us and try to get an autograph from the cast-"
"Emma!" Aunt Clara's voice screeched as she pushed open the door. Emma looked done at her shoes, once again, with a guilty look on her face. "It was supposed to be a surprise" Clara finished.
"Don't worry I'm still surprised" I say, glancing from Emma to Clara. "And what a wonderful surprise it is. I'm very grateful. Thank you" I finish, hoping this would get Emma out of trouble. Aunt Clara let out a humph aimed at her daughter, then left. Emma's mouth twitched a smile then followed. I sigh and climb into bed, kicking my suitcase to the side. I sprawl out and within minutes, I'm in a deep sleep.
