Am I Truly Worth Saving?

A lil' bit of angst

Dawn was barely peeking through the horizon, you finished talking to Anna making some last-minute purchases for everyone. 

This was it. The final battle.

You never thought it would come to this, it didn't seem so long ago when everyone was so happy together, smiling, laughing, and so bliss... 

All good things must come to an end, don't they? Killing Edelgard would finally mean success for the blue lions, as much everyone didn't want to.

Everyone looked restless,  some were gravely wounded from the last battle with Hubert. You went around trying to raise morale for the next battle. While it succeeded, one person worried you the most. 

You went to go speak to Dedue, as you knew he always kept a page on the prince, you need to know where he was.

You saw him looking up to the Adrestian Castle, there seemed to be a mix of emotions clouding him. 

"Dimitri."

"Ah! Professor... I- I didn't see you there, I was just pondering."

"I assume what Cornelia said..."

"Well not only that, I just can't seem to mentally prepare myself to fight with.. her."

You sat down on the grass and motion Dimitri to sit down with you.

"Dimitri, you will never be able to mentally prepare yourself to fight against your kin."

Dimitri sighed and took a seat next to you, " I know, I know... but I can't shake the feeling that I'm the most horrible person in the world. All the people I've killed, already enough I'm damned for eternity for it, and now I'm going to kill my step-stepsister, the last of my family."

"You know everyone in the blue lion house is your family." You smiled.

He smiled, "You're right, I'm silly to be forgetting you all. You all are so important to me... so so important." He moved the hair out of his face to look up to the sky.

"You're important to us too Dimitri,  we'd never leave you."

He looked to you curious at what you were doing, for all he saw were your hands carefully constructing something. 

"I have a present for you Dimitri, but close your eyes."

"What foolishness have you done now?" He chuckled but closed his eyes to appease you.

He felt your hands place something so light on his head, "Now you may open them." You stared him with a bright smile. He blushed to see you so happy, the Sun oh so perfectly shaped behind you. 

"A flower crown? Why such a sweet a gift, lovely even."

"You're welcome my highness,  only the best for you." 

You both shared a laugh, such formalness was nonexistent between the two of you. He sighed and picked a flower, placing it into your hair, you blushed savoring this moment, his face was filled with so much worry and stress, but at that moment, he seemed to be in pure bliss.

You took his hand into your's,  you looked at the rising sun, a silence ensued between you and him. 

"Your hands... they're so warm..." 

You took your left hand, cupping his face, the tears he was holding back, came out. You wiped the tears off his face and you embraced him.

"It's okay, you're doing what you know is right. We weren't able to reason with her, it isn't your fault."

You pulled him closer, kissing his head.

"(y/n)... am I truly worth saving?"
