Calendar Moonstone, the daughter of two hippies and a very brilliant designer of beautiful jewelry. Calendar has a secret life in which she is a cat burglar who is specialized in the thefts of expensive jewels. She is no modern Robin Hood, but she avoids hurting anybody and stealing from those who can't afford it.

One night during what she thought was a straightforward job at an art gallery, she comes across the body of a night watchman and a safe that hasn't been cracked by her. Calendar realizes she wasn't the only thief present at the gallery that night.
Calendar heads out to her parents' house in San Diego where two detectives were already waiting for her as she was a suspect in the robbery and the murder.

But of course, Calendar had already set up the perfect alibi; her best friend Mundy Millar who claimed to have been with her at the time of the heist in Redondo Beach.
After she was cleared, detective Ron Closeky decides to use her expertise to crack the case, so Calendar moves from being a prime suspect to a police consultant. She teams up with the handsome detective, and a British insurance investigator who blames Calendar for every heist ever committed. The case which seems to be too complicated with so many loose ends takes them on a wild ride that leads to a century-old jewel mystery.
A Brilliant Plan is a very well-written mystery and an enjoyable read with many interesting characters and is spiced up with a nice sense of humor. It also has many twists and turns that will keep you thinking until the very last chapter.
