6. I need to grow my fingernails too.
“Mia, your friend is here!” mum called from downstairs.
I ran downstairs still wearing my pyjamas to find Mitch waiting for me at the door. “You’re still in your pyjamas?” he smirked at me.
“Sorry! I’ll be down in a sec,” I called running back upstairs to get changed. I’d completely forgotten we were going to school together.
“You finally ready? No wonder you’re late practically every day,” he said as we walked out the door.
“The gig’s tonight,” he sighed.
“Thanks for reminding me,” I said sticking my tongue out at him. “What time do we have to be there?”
“Well it starts at 7 but I think it’s best to get there an hour earlier to practice,” he said. “I also wanted to let you know I’ll be bringing someone along,” he said looking down.
“Like as a date?”
“Yer,” he replied.
“Well good for you!” I said giving him a pat on the back. “Do I know her?”
“Yer,” he said looking around awkwardly.
“Well, are you gonna tell me her name or what?”
“It’s …” Bring!
“Shit the bell, I can’t be late again, run!” we sprinted to home group and made it just when our names were being called out.
Dave smiled at me as soon as I got in the room. I went and sat next to him.
“Hey Mia, wanna go to the gig together? My mum said she drop us off and then pick us up after and seeing as it’s a Friday, you can stay over if you want,” April asked me on our way to class.
“Yer, that’d be great. I’ll send mum a text at lunch. I’ll just have to go past my place after school to get my stuff,” I replied. Thank god this offer came up. If I were at home mum would take forever to get me there and I’d miss like half of the rehearsal.
“Awesome!” she said giving me a hug. “What are you going to do about the Dave issue by the way?”
“Listen, I’ll talk to you at recess or lunch ‘cause Miss Stanstead is going to bury me if I turn up late again,” I said running off to English.
Miss Stanstead was calling the role as soon as I got in. I wasn’t that late, but Erin decided it was appropriate for her to smirk at me.
I went and sat down next to Daisy and her pose.
“Okay class, we’re going to pair up today to work on our new weekly project,” Miss Stanstead said with a grin. Working in pairs for her meant, she didn’t have to walk around and give people too much help. “I’ll be drawing names out of a hat, so don’t get too excited,” she said with an even bigger grin to her face.
She started drawing out names, “…Daisy and Mason, Charles and Peter, Mia and Erin…” What the fuck?! I’m refuse to work with that bitch! I turned to look at her, she seemed to think the same thing.
“Look I hate you, you hate me but I think we can agree on something, we need new partners,” she said giving me a dirty look. “There is no way I’m being partners with you,” she practically spat at me.
“Miss, would it be alright if we could possibly change partners, you see Erin and I can’t really concentrate well when we’re together,” I said in my sweetest voice.
“I’m sorry girls but everyone has a pair and they’ve already started working,” she said walking off to her desk.
Erin and I turned to look at each other. Actually it was my like, turned to glare at each other. Well, might as well try, I guess.
“We should do Bullying,” I suggested, trying to make my point subtle.
“Whatever,” she sighed, then that smirk started appearing again, “So what’s happened with your little gay friend?”
“Don’t you dare call him that!” I yelled at her realising everyone around us were staring, so I toned my voice down a little, “You have no right to call anyone that, it doesn’t matter if he is or isn’t, what did he ever do to you?!”
“Hmmm, I noticed you said ‘it doesn’t matter if he is or isn’t’, does that mean you have doubts about your boyfriend Mia?” she taunted, “I mean if his own girlfriend is having doubts then it must be true. Oh wait, why am I still saying girlfriend? Are you trying to help him cover up or something? Or do you just want to prove to everyone that someone actually asked you out?” she started laughing.
That’s it! That bitch was going down. Before I could control my anger I jumped out of my seat and grabbed a chunk of her hair.
“You bitch!” she screamed at me. All of a sudden she grabbed my arm and dug her long nails into them. I let go of her hair and slapped her.
“Girls, stop this right now!” we could hear Miss Stanstead yelling at us, so we stopped but kept giving each other death stares. You could see everyone around us whispering and staring at us in surprise. “Go to the principal’s office right away! Corey go with them please, make sure they don’t kill each other on the way there,” she sighed.
We made it to the principal’s office safely thanks to Corey.
“Listen girls,” said Mr Linder, “I don’t want to hear it, I’ve already heard enough from Miss Stanstead to earn yourselves a weeks’ worth of after school detention. You may both leave now, but I want to make sure you both walk in opposite directions,” he saw us walk of and went back to his office.
I went to the bathroom to fix my hair after, it looked like a mess. I looked down at my arm, it was still stinging from her nails, and I could still see the marks from those nails of hers.
The bell for recess went and girls started coming into the toilets. As soon as they saw me they started whispering and some of them bothered to ask if I was okay.
“Mia, Mia, Mia! I can’t believe you did that! I’m so proud of you!” Nick came up and gave me a big bear hug.
“Choking,” he put me down.
Dave and Mitch weren’t here their class had detention today at recess and lunch.
“What the hell happened?!” Ella yelled giving me a hug.
“There are rumours going around saying all sorts,” it was April this time.
“Well you have to admit that bitch deserved it,” Nick laughed, “What did she do to provoke you?”
“Oh you know just the usual, making stuff up about you guys and so on,” well I couldn’t possibly tell him about the Dave thing could I?
The rest of the day was pretty crap, I mean I got some high fives from randoms but the stuff Erin said really got to me. I mean, what if he really is using me? Gosh, Erin must take bitch classes or something. I mean, she picked at all my weak spots, Dave, getting a guy to ask me out and mostly the fact that he’s my friend and she’s making fun of him.
“We’ll see you guys at the gig tonight, see you’se later,” April and I left to go to my place after school to pick up my stuff.
“This is going to be a long night,” April sighed while we were walking to my place.
