Sorry I can't serve drinks. I imagine more than a few of you feel like you could use one.

So, we have a pandemic going on. And by the looks of things, it's going to be about as serious as the Spanish Influenza was a century ago. It sounds glib to say, no matter how it's written, but we're going to lose people because of this. Many already have.

Which is why I'd like to thank you for what you've managed so far with social distancing. Keeping your distance from others, not going out more than you have to, giving up friends and drinks and a lot of the small comforts that make life enjoyable, and not even knowing that it's helping or if it will keep you from getting sick, it's hard.

But what you're doing saves lives. Keeping away from the elderly means that many of them might not get sick, and Covid19 is particularly dangerous to anyone over sixty years old. And even those that do get sick might still get hospital care because they don't have as many fellow patients, and respirators are still available.

I have people I care about who are old, or have compromised immune systems. So for what you're doing so far, even as it stresses you out and imperils your bank account, I wanted to say thanks.

You're saving lives. Don't think otherwise. You probably won't be thanked much, and you'll come out of it poorer than when you started, unless you own stock in a tissue paper making company. And sacrificing for other people without expectation or reward, because it's the right thing to do, that's hero stuff. More so because you probably don't think of it that way, which makes the fact that you're doing it anyway more valuable.

So now that I've gotten the serious speech out of the way, let me start by asking you, how are you?

Are you well? Still healthy? Stuck at home? Had things cancelled? Did you get sent on a long quest to find a Starbucks that's still open, because your wife hasn't had a chai latte in almost a week?

And do you have any ideas for what you'd like to see here?

Anyway, I'll add more as we go.

And let me know if you need the honest goods about what we're looking at with this pandemic. There's a fantastic amount of misinformation out there.

Burn brightly, all of you.
