From the First Beat

Two hearts rest. A life is new,

A beam of light toward infinity,

By God in time, unstoppable,

Immortal in eternity.

Many never fall into light,

For the light first descends.

As sand they flow unnoticed.

Love from mankind ends.

Forgotten and unseen,

A ghost or dream gone wrong.

The pick-up notes alone

Of God's majestic song.

In other men we find

Pearls and diamonds unique,

But of these grains of sand

There seems not much to seek.

Yet the story of love lies not in dust.

Beneath the tissue of a heart

Is found a burning star,

And the master's finest art.

The master-heart beat

First in an unborn chest.

He peers through the lattice,

And leaves the family blest.
