You've never been the volleyball type, so every time Kuroo begged you to become the manager for his team, you rejected. "Tetsu, you don't want a good-for-nothing manager. I know nothing about volleyball." "You could learn! I can teach you!"
Honestly, you did feel a little bad sometimes. It happened less often the older the two of you got, but sometimes he would get this pout that looked something like a dejected puppy. He started to become aware of how ridiculous he looked with that pout and it turned into more of a joke than anything.
Kuroo asked you again at the beginning of your third-year. He promised you that it would be the last, and it was. But that time had left you feeling worse than you had ever felt after telling him you wouldn't join. He didn't say anything different than usual, but something got to you. Whether it was the look in his eyes, knowing that this was his last year playing high school volleyball, or how dejected he looked for days afterwards. The last time he asked you was the time you finally caved. Looks like it's time to learn a thing or two about volleyball.
You've never been an unwelcome sight in the gym. Even in the time that Nekomata was in retirement, Manabu would tolerate you as long as you didn't distract the team too much. So when the boys see you in the gym talking to Nekomata, they think nothing of it. That is, until they're called around and you're introduced as their new manager. Without Yaku to hold him back, Kuroo would plow into you and sob into your hair.
"I know nothing about volleyball, so please bare with me as I try to learn." You can swear you saw Taketora begin to tear up as well, but the boys are sent to start running as soon as you're finished greeting them for the first time as their official manager.

"I swear, Tetsu, I don't know what's more annoying. Your constant bugging me to become manager or your constant crying when I finally accept." Kuroo frowns at you, covering both eyes with his sleeve. "I'm not crying, I just got an eyelash in my eye."
You sigh. Even though you've been hanging around the volleyball team since your first year, you still know next to nothing about the sport. Your only saving grace was the promise that you could learn from Kuroo and Kenma when you're not in school or practice.
You draw a breath to complain and to remind Kuroo of his promise, but he beats you to the punch. "You have faster internet, so we'll probably have to stay at your place. A lot of stuff you'll have to learn at practice and in matches. The kind of stuff that takes more than one person to demonstrate, you know? Unless I can find videos online."
He claps his hands together loudly, startling you. This doesn't escape his notice, but he lets it pass for now and continues on his excited ramble. "Oh! You can meet all of the buddies we've made at other schools. I think you're gonna like Bokuto." You would ask who Bokuto is, but you don't have the heart to cut into his excitement.
