This story was sparked by the Open Novella Contest fantasy and science fiction prompt #26:
"Every time she lights a match, she escapes into a new world."
This is also a story for and about my dad. My dad had, to me, the first real brush with mortality this past year. I wasn't ready. I'm still not. I don't think we ever are. This story came out of that catharsis of worry and wonder.
He is on the road to recovery now, but time has its inevitable conclusion and one day when he returns to the stars, in my dreams, I will meet my dad at the edge of the universe.
