I had picked up a stone and thrown it at Anna's window. It had made a soft tick sound against the glass but nobody opened the window. I remember it so clearly even though it happened nearly two years ago.

I picked up another stone and threw it again, harder. The window flew open and that was signal enough for me. I crawled up the wall and climbed in through her window.

"You smell so good today," she said. She was facing the wall as I stood behind her.

"Happy birthday, Anna," I murmured. She heard me even though my voice was almost inaudible.

She turned around and looked at me for the longest time. This was the moment; the moment when she realized what I really was for her.

She walked towards me, her hips swaying as she took each step. It was pure torture controlling myself. She lay her hands on my chest and pressed her lips against mine. It was the first time we had ever kissed and it was absolutely amazing.

"Why didn't you tell me you were the one?" She asked. Her eyes betrayed her hurt and my wolf cried out at her sadness.

"You were too young then." I said.

"I had the right to know, Cody."

"I just wanted to protect you,"

"From what? I've always known that I love you and it pained me to imagine somebody else was made for you!"

"From myself," I whispered, "I love you a thousand times more, Anna."

She crushed herself against my chest and I relished her touch. She was beautiful and I could finally have her after four years of waiting. She had turned eighteen. She was finally able to recognize me and I was finally able to express how I really felt.

For four years I had maintained nothing more than a platonic relationship with her. It had been hard but I wanted her to know at the right time. And it had been worth the wait.

I woke up feeling slightly more disheveled than I had been feeling before. I had an awful feeling in my stomach. There was something wrong but I couldn't figure out what. Well, if you thought about it everything was wrong but there was just something and I couldn't quite put my finger on it...

I heard a knock on the door just as I pulled on a pair of shorts. It was four am in the morning, why did they need to see me then?

I opened the door to Serena who quickly pushed past me.

"There are wolves who just came looking for you." She said. I felt my heart sink.

"Which pack did they belong to?"

"Serill, I think," she said, "the point is, we have to run!"

"Run where?" I asked, "they'll just keep following me. Maybe I should just turn myself in..."

"You've come this far, you can't give up now!"

"Why are you so concerned?"

"Because we need you," she murmured, "your heir will fulfill the prophecy."

"My heir?" I laughed, "what heir? How can I even produce an heir when my mate would rather die than talk to me!"

Those had been Anna's very words. I kept replaying them in my head but I knew that she didn't mean it. She was my mate and we had a bond that no one could understand. I had waited four years for her.

"There will be an heir and you have to be there to help her." Serena whispered. She looked like she was in a trance.

"What prophecy are you talking about?"
