This Isn't How It Was Supposed to Be

Astrid's Question

Morning came and the sheets stirred as Hiccup and Astrid woke up at the same time, their eye fluttered open and they smiled at each other softly, Hiccup then brought his hand to Astrid's face and placed it on her cheek and stroked it softly with his thumb

"II'm so happy you're alive, I don't know what I'd do without you if I lost you" Hiccup said keeping his gaze locked on her "I know you wouldn't, I wouldn't know what I'd do without you either babe" she said as she smile and planted a soft kiss on his lips making him smile

"Come on" Hiccup said sitting up "we need to get to the academy for training" Astrid smiled as she threw the covers off herself and started to get dressed, ready for the day ahead

When they were dressed and ready they ate breakfast and called their dragons who were with them quicker than they could blink, they hopped on and took off towards the academy racing each other along the way

At the academy Fishlegs and Meatlug were waiting patiently reading the Book of Dragons "Victory" came a voice and a strong breeze, he looked over as realised Hiccup and Astrid had arrived and were racing again and as always Hiccup won the race

"You guys racing again?" Fishlegs asked happy to see his friends again "yeah but I still think you cheated Hiccup" Astrid said putting her hands on her hips and glaring at him "oh come on Astrid" Hiccup laughed holding his hands up defensively "Toothless is the fastest dragon there is to exist, I didn't cheat" he said, Astrid nodded and gave him a cheeky smile "Toothless cheated" he said "what?" Astrid said confused at what he just said "Toothless cheated, he ate a load of fish before we woke up and it gave him a load of energy, like Stormfly and chicken" he said patting Toothless' head

"Oh come on" Astrid exclaimed "so I made Stormfly exhausted for nothing" she said throwing her arms around in the air "yup" Hiccup said as he walked over to her and kissed her softly before walking over to some crates and started to stack them for the days lesson

Astrid was still stood there with a shocked face and didn't move, it was like she turned into a statue "wow, talk about bad karma" Fishlegs said "bad what?..." Astrid said "Karma, it's when you do something bad to someone and later you get something just as bad happen to you" he told her patting her shoulder and smiling

"I haven't done anything to Hiccup......" she said getting a look from Fishlegs that said 'huh yeah right'....."what? I haven't" she exclaimed, then her eyes shot wide and she covered her mouth quickly as out a hand on her stomach, she then ran past Fishlegs to the nearest bush and threw up, she finished vomiting and wiped her mouth

"Okay yes I'm keeping my pregnancy from Hiccup, it's a surprise Fishlegs okay.....I was planning on telling him today during class" she said fidgeting with her fingers and rubbing her toe in the dust "well if you don't then you might have two opinions on the baby Astrid, one you will like and one you will hate, it's best you tell him now, he is the father after all" Fishlegs said looking at Hiccup who was playing with Toothless laughing his heart out

She smiled and remembered the first flight she went on with them, yes she almost died but the night flight was just so romantic she loss all interest in killing dragons as decided to follow her heart and that took her straight to Hiccup

She was so lost that when she felt something soft on her lips she was surprised but she loved it as she knew it was Hiccup, she felt hands grip her wrists and hold her hands, when the kiss ended she opened her eyes and saw emerald green eyes staring back at her with a gorgeous smile on his face "why didn't you want to tell me that you were pregnant Astrid?" Hiccup asked her holding her hand and placing the other on her belly

Astrid sighed and bit her lip "I...I guess I was just...s-scared that you wouldn't want the baby and leave me" she said softly looking a little sad and scared "hey" Hiccup said cupping her chin with his hand "that will never happen okay, and I swear I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure this baby is okay" he said giving her an assuring smile, tears began to well up in Astrid's eyes as she smiled back at him "thank you Hiccup" she sobbed

"Not a problem m'lady, now since you are carrying my child, I'm going to have to put some rules down to keep you two safe" he said, Astrid sighed but nodded in response, she knew Hiccup was right and he was doing the right thing "now then, you are not to go into battle if we are attacked, instead you will go to Berk's peak, the highest mountain and I will come for you when it is safe okay" he said getting a silent nod from Astrid

"Now you can ride Stormfly but no tricks too huge as you may lose the baby" he said looking deep into her ocean blue eyes, again she nodded happily, if Hiccup lost his child he would only blame himself "okay you might hate me for this one but no axe throwing until the baby is born, I'm sorry but it's for the baby" he said, Astrid knew he was right but she just had to hit him for being so protective but she kinda liked it, she clenched her fist and rammed his shoulder "ow" Hiccup winced "I had that one coming" he said rubbing his shoulder

"Yeah you did, but.....thank you for looking after me" she said grinning happily "well it's what I do best" he said giving her a cheeky smile making Astrid giggle and laugh "but em?........there is something I want to ask you Astrid" Hiccup said reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small wooden box that had the StrikeClass symbol on it

"We have been together now for five years and its taken me that time to build up enough courage to ask you this question so....." he said getting down on one knee adds opening the box to revile a golden ring with a large diamond in the middle and three smaller ones on either side if the large one "Astrid Hofferson, I'll sail and swim in savage seas, with more the fear if drowning, and gladly ride the waves of life if you will marry me" he said with a nervous smile in his face

Astrid gasped and smiled, she couldn't believe it, Hiccup was proposing to her right before her very eyes "yes, yes I will" she said crying tears of extreme joy and happiness, she launched herself at him and kissed him deeply as her arms wrapped round him, after a while they broke apart and Hiccup slipped the ring on her finger, the flood gates opened and tears came pouring down Astrid's face as she smashed her lips into Hiccups and gave him the best kiss they ever shared

For the first time for a while she felt like this was how it was meant to happen
