Life is Like This

Michael found himself really excited for his date with Valentina, he put on his black t-shirt, and his converse, he is a really simple man, black hair, brown eyes that sparkled red in the light, he was tall, he wasn't a man with extremely big muscles, he didn't have a six pack or an eight pack, he was 'normal'.

He was preparing to leave, when he realize he forgot his watch on the table near his door, he couldn't leave the house without it, Michael went back for his watch and decided to walk, the night was a little cold, but the restaurant was ten blocks away and he needed to clear his head a little, after all he was going on a date for the first time in two years. He had arrived from Europe and was looking to settle down. He was a little nervous, but confident.

After fifteen minutes, he arrived to the restaurant, it wasn't anything special, it was casual, and it wasn't crowded, you could hear the music, and the chit chat of the people around, but it wasn't loud enough to bother the clients of the little establishment. The floors where gray and the walls where white, the table where they were going to sit, was next to the window, but not near the door, because every time someone opened it, the chilly air would come in and Valentina might get cold. Michael was a true gentlemen, he thought of everything.

He sat on the table waiting for the beautiful woman to arrive, she walked through the door and he was a stunned by his beauty, Valentina was a beautiful redhead with green eyes, and some freckles that adorned her button nose. She was a little taller than him with high heels, which she loved to wear, he went to the door and escorted her to their table, he moved the chair for her to sit. They ordered the food and started talking while eating the entries, it was homemade bread, it was still hot and crunchy, it was acompanied with cream cheese sauce. They talked about Valentina's work, she was a real state realtor, and they also talked about his job; he was a successful lawyer, not too big, but pretty known around the city.

The date was going great, conversation was flowing, Valentina was easy going and he was enjoying her company, everything was perfect in this moment. But as everything in life, nothing stays perfect. His mind started to wonder to a place he hadn't gone in a while, he knew she was there, but he didn't dare to look, he wanted a pleasant dinner with Valentina.

He was really trying to forget about his long lost love Amelia. Things didn't go as planned, he had an amazing job offer as partner in a very well known firm in Germany, it was his dream job; and she had her own dreams and wasn't ready to let go of them, she wanted to join a famous ballet academy, she wanted to ask Michael, not, to beg him that he went with her, but she realize she couldn't ask him to forget about his dreams, that would be selfish, so she made the painful choice of letting go so they could go and fulfill their dreams. She went to Australia, and they where torn apart, her heart was in pieces and so was his.

Amelia was entering her favorite place in town, she was with her best friend Lyla, they were catching up, she was just arriving from touring with the ballet company, she was glad to be home, she missed her family, her friends, but most of all, she missed him. She wouldn't say it at loud, but that didn't made it any less true.

She was wearing a blue floral dress, her light brown curls where all over her shoulders, and complemented her hazel eyes. She was wearing her favorite necklace, it was a very delicate chain with a small amethyst, she never took it off, and if she had to, she felt naked, the necklace was part of her. She sat on the table with Lyla, it was across from Michael's and also next to the window. Lyla brought her back from her toughs asking her how was her flight, she was tired and all she wanted was to eat, chat with her best friend and then sleep until there was no tomorrow.

Michael couldn't resist, after all, it was the love of her life, and he was hers, they crossed looks, there was so much to be said, but neither of them have the courage, they belong together, there was no doubt about it, but the time apart made them good. Michael realized that a big salary and a foreign country wasn't fulfilling enough, and Amelia found out that too much perfection and pushing herself to the limit messed up big time with her mental health, they needed to experience those months to be the person they're today.

Amelia noticed Michael from her table, she wasn't ready to face the love of her life. She just stared at him, hoping he would approach her, she was wearing the amethyst he gave her for her birthday, and he noticed it, he was wearing the watch she give him on an anniversary celebration, and her eyes wandered to his wrist. Amelia was desperate to go to him, to hug him, kiss him, and tell him how much she missed him and how much she longed for his company. They kept their eyes locked for a few more minutes, until he went back to his date, Amelia understood and so she went back to her lunch with Lyla.
