It was time

For Java the sea turtle to depart from the coastal grime

She'd fought against it for so long

She had spent all of her life here

Drowning within beige sands in subdued fear

She'd fought against it for so long

She conversed with preoccupied crabs

And lolled beneath the palm tree's sag

She'd fought against it for so long

She hesitated to rush

along with the gush of confident sea turtles

She fought against it for so long

It feels so wrong

that she doesn't belong

unlike the other sea turtles did

She drowned her regrets in coconuts

And became a bum with no guts

unlike the other sea turtles did

This became her home

It is where she bathes in the shallow foam

unlike the other sea turtles did

She never wanted this

She never truly felt the sea's watery kiss

unlike the other sea turtles did

Stick figure headhunters intimidated her

They waved their spears around in a blur

It hurt

Stick figure headhunters tormented Java

With rotten spheres of guava

It hurt

Seabirds ignored her omnipresence

caught up in dogfights over the sea's presents

It hurt

Her sisters added insult to injury

By returning with memories of adventure

It hurt

Until now

All she had to deal with

were the many myths

Until now

the high rise volcano

never gleamed with an ominous halo

Until now

she never wanted to break past the waves

that had kept her away

Until now

she had never felt more compelled

to end two years of fear and hell

Condensed masses of grey

Amble sullenly across the bay

Testing her will

A blackened surf twists and warps

Foreshadowing the coming of a corpse

Testing her will

Contorting limbs of violet lightning

Crack the air open with frightening thunder

Testing her will

Angry gods rumble the earth

Pressuring Java and inhabitants to prove their worth

 Testing her will

Can she do this?

Can Java break free?

And make it into the open sea?

Can she do this?

Can she leave the isolation?

And put herself into motion?

Can she do this?

Can she find the resolve?

And evolve?

Can she do this?

Or will it all fall apart?

And doom her to finally depart?
