{Ch. 2} My Lover is My Dead Ex Boyfriend's Best Friend ;]

{Ch. 2}

I trudged up the marble steps up to my private school, called Richards Ridge. It’s a weird name, yes, but it is also very expensive.

I opened the door to see a typical high school hallway with the talking kids trying to waste time, people making out, and people in their own groups.

Luckily for me, I didn’t have a group. I didn’t fit in with any of them.

I wasn’t a slut or a cheerleader. I wasn’t in the band or orchestra. I wasn’t emo or a nerd. I wasn’t popular.

Loner was the word that echoed in my mind every time I opened the doors to my retarded school.

Today was going to be different, though.

I could feel it.

I sat down with a sigh, because in this class, Ian had always sat next to me, but all there was left is a cold empty seat.

As I got all my materials out of my backpack, I could feel someone sitting down next to me.

My heart leapt, because for a minute I had a feeling that Ian had come back to be with me again.

I turned around to see… Kent Taylor. Disappointment flooded through me and my grin turned into a frown.

“It’s ok to be disappointed. You thought I was him, didn’t you?” Kent asked.

“Yeah… Sorry,” I mumbled.

“Is it alright if I sit next to you today?” He smirked.

“Whatever… Just don’t bother me,” I snapped.

“Have it your way,” he said, dropping his eyes.

I felt a little bad, because I don’t usually snap at him like that. Before Ian’s death, we used to be really close.

Surprisingly, he stayed quiet for the rest of the class period.

As soon as the bell rang, I gathered my stuff and practically ran out the door.

But I faintly heard, “It was nice seeing you, too…”

At lunch I was heading over to my loner table when I heard two simultaneous yells of, “Riley, come sit with us!”

I turned to see Oliver Heske and Ethan White waving me over.

Confused, I blinked several times before looking again. They were still waving me over, and the whole cafeteria had gone silent. Everyone was looking at me and staring because a) they didn’t know who I was or b) They were wondering why a loser was being called over by the two male leaders of the school.

Trying to ignore the stares and dumbfounded looks, I sat down, trying to enjoy my apple and book, when I felt two presences on either side of me.

Oliver and Ethan were grinning at me like there was no tomorrow, but they also glared at each other.

“Riley~ Did you miss me?~” Ethan asked dramatically, all up in my face.

“Shut up fool. She missed meeee~” Oliver cried.

What the hell was wrong with them?

“Just one question, guys.” I said warily.

“What is it?” They asked in unison.

“What’s wrong with you guys and why are you talking to me?” Because of Ian’s death you guys are talking to me? Don’t even bother, because I hate guys like you.” I spit and I got up quickly, gathering my stuff, but a hand pulled me back down.

Oliver grabbed my arm and pleaded with his eyes.

“I’m not pitying you… I’m pitying Ian because he couldn’t take care of his girl when she needs him the most.” Oliver begged.

“Pfft… Can we stop with the cheesy romance lines? This isn’t a movie, you know,” Ethan smirked.

“Well then, no one wants you here, so go away,” Oliver shot back.

“Fine,” Ethan huffed, swishing his hair to the side of his head before walking away.

In the corner of my eye, I could see Kent staring.

“D-do you love me?” He blurted out.

“Uh… I don’t know…” Riley stammered.

“I could be so much better for you… I’ve loved you ever since I’ve met you…” He cried.

(A/N: I’m not gonna say who “he” is, but feel free to take a nice guess.)

“I don’t think it would be good for us to be together. My parents and your parents are against it and all…” Riley murmured.

“What is this, some Romeo and Juliet story?” He snorted.

“No, but-”

Riley was cut off.

“I know you don’t love me. If you did love me you wouldn’t care about whether our parents hate each other or not. And I know you like my best friend, but I’ll keep waiting for you, I promise. I’ll love you until I die…” He breathed, then kissed me.

*Flashback over*

I slowly trudged to my empty, lonely home. I didn’t want to go back to that hell hole, but where else did I have to go?

I couldn’t go to anyone’s house, because I didn’t have any friends, and if I asked Ethan, Oliver, or Kent, they would think I’m a pig.

Urg! Why is life so complicated?

I decided to get on a bus, take it, and see where it goes.

Climbing into the warm bus, I see that it’s packed, and the doors are closed so I can’t get out.

The only seat is next to a pretty brunette, probably my age.

“Hey, can I sit here?” I shyly asked.

“Sure!” She gave me a toothy grin while moving her bag out of the way.

“What’s your name?” She casually asked.

“My name’s Riley. What about you?”

“My name is Angelica, but you can call me Angie!” She smiled.

“Where are you headed to?” I asked curiously. I had found out she was a junior, just one year younger than me.

A girl like her shouldn’t be alone wandering around at 1 in the morning.

“Well, it may sound stupid, but I’m just taking this bus to see where it leads me,” She gave me a crooked grin.

“Really?! I was doing the same!” I gasped.

“So what’s your problem?” She asked me.

“It’s complicated…” I sighed.

“Oh, I see.” She didn’t try to pry.

“How bout you?” I asked her.

“Haha, it’s complicated, too. Even if I told you, you wouldn’t believe me.” She laughed.

“Do you wanna trade numbers and tell each other sometime?” I asked, smiling. Wow! She was one of the only girls who were easy to talk to.

“Sure!” She took my phone and punched her number in, and I did the same with her phone.

I got off the bus at the next stop and yelled, “You better call me!”

My house was four blocks away, and I started walking towards it.

Suddenly all my energy was drained and I felt like I was a thousand pounds.

It was odd, because I felt like I was being watched.

Suddenly, I saw green eyes and felt something jump on me.

I fell over and I screamed.
