The Battle for Middle-Earth

Aragorn leads the army up to the Black Gate. It rises into their sight, tall & forbidding. They reach it, unopposed. Standing before the gate, the place seems to be deserted. Pippin pipes up:

“Where are they?”

Without a word, Aragorn spurs his horse forward towards the gate. Èomer, Gandalf, Legolas & Gimli follow him. Aragorn shouts:

“Let the Lord of the Black Land come forth! Let justice be done upon him!”

The gate slowly creaks open. A single rider appears riding on a dark horse. The rider is covered completely from head to toe in armor; the only thing being visible is a grotesque mouth. The rider speaks:

“My master, Sauron the Great, bids you welcome. It there any in this rout with the authority to treat with me?”

Gandalf speaks out:

“We do not come to treat with Sauron, faithless & accursed. Tell your master this: The armies of Mordor must disband. He is to depart these lands, never to return.”

The mouth turns to the wizard.

“Old Greybeard. I have a token I was bidden to show thee.”

He holds up a mithril shirt. Pippin stares at in horror uttering:

The mouth throws the shirt to the wizard who catches it. Pippin repeats still horrified:

Orders the wizard but this time Merry speaks out:

The wizard orders again. The mouth says:

“The halfling was dear to thee, I see. Know that he suffered greatly at the hands of his host. Who would’ve thought one so small could endure so much pain? And he did Gandalf. He did.”

The mouth laughs wickedly. Aragorn rides round to the side of the mouth. The mouth looks at the man.

“And who is this? Isildur’s heir? It takes more to make a King than a broken elvish blade.”

Aragorn looks calm for a moment. Then with a quick hard slice, the man cuts off the head of he mouth of Sauron with his sword. The dwarf comments:

“I guess that concludes negotiations.”

“I do not believe it. I will not.”

Aragorn says determinedly. The eye’s gaze turns to face the army from Minas Tirith. The Black gates open, revealing an army of marching orcs. Aragorn shouts to the men:

“Pull back! Pull back!”

The fellowship ride back to join the waiting army. As the orcs flood out of the gate, Aragorn addresses the unsettled men:

“Hold your ground! Hold your ground! Sons of Gondor! Men of Rohan! My brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends & break all bonds of fellowship but it is not this day. An hour of wolves & shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth I bid you stand, Men of the West!”

The men draw their swords the sound of scraping steel filling the air. They dismount their steeds, sending them to safety. Aragorn turns to face the orc army once more. Gimli says gruffly to  Legolas standing next to him:

“Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with an elf.”

“What about side by side with a friend?”

The elf answers looking down fondly on the dwarf. The dwarf looks sideways up at Legolas.

“Aye, I could do that.”

The eye is now fixed on Aragorn. The eye calls to the man:

Aragorn looks momentarily tempted by the ring. Then he turns to the wizard behind him who looks back at him questioningly. The man says serenely:

“For Frodo.”

Then the man runs towards the orc army waving his sword & yelling. Merry & Pippin run after him. Soon the rest of the army follows.

The battle had begun.

                                  *                                *                                *

Back in Minas Tirith, Cristiel gasps, clutching at her arm. Drawing her hand back she saw blood staining the sleeve of her dress. She grimaced, bracing herself for what was to come.

The battle at the Black Gate had begun.

                                  *                                *                                *

At the Black Gate, men, elf, dwarf, wizard & orcs engage in battle. Everything is a blur of steel. The sound of metal upon metal fills the air. The fellowship all sustain wounds but without them noticing all of them close up leaving no trace behind.

There is a screech & all men look up in fear. The Nazgûl have come. They descend upon the men killing all in their wake.

As Gandalf fights, a familiar moth flies in front of his face. The wizard’s face brightens. Bird cries fill the air. Several eagles appear & attack the Nazgûl. Pippin cries out in joy:

“Eagles! The eagles are coming!”

The Nazgûl beasts & eagles fight. The Eye of Sauron turns towards Mount Doom. He senses the ring & so do the Nazgûl they fly towards its presence.

Fighting at the Black Gate continues. Aragorn turns to see a huge troll heading his way. He engages with the beast. Unable to gain the upper hand he is thrown down. Legolas sees this  & tries to fight his way towards his friend.

The troll stamps upon the fallen Aragorn. The man takes his dagger, stabbing the troll in the foot. Then all of a sudden Sauron’s eye cries out. The armies of Mordor look back to sensing something wrong & flee. Looking on, the men see the tower of Barad-dûr slowly fall. Sauron’s eye disappears letting out a large shockwave. The army of the west let out a huge cheer. They had won.

The surrounding landscape begins to crumble. The Black Gate collapses as the ground caves in taking much of Sauron’s army with it. Merry shouts in victory:

“Frodo! Frodo!”

The men yell in victory. Then Mount Doom erupts in a huge explosion. The eruption kills the remaining Nazgûl.

But there is no joy in fellowship’s faces. There is no way Frodo & Sam could have escaped that eruption. The two brave hobbits were gone.

Decided to update early today as I won't be able to in the evening. Going to a fencing competition, which requires me to stay overnight. Not bringing my laptop with me so cannot update. Wish me luck!
