Chapter five.

"I'm so fucking confused!" Jessie slammed his fist down on my desk. "Why would you even mention Frank Lucas? You know him and Cole are enemies. Are you trying to get us killed? We don't even know Franks playbook. So, why would you tell Cole something that isn't true."

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what I have to deal with. It's been approximately nine hours since I last spoke to Cole Ryder at Toxic Lips. Not much happened after he told me to kill Frank Lucas . . .

"What do I have to do?"

He smirked devilishly. "I want you to kill Frank Lucas."

My eyes widened as I glanced at Jessie. His expression mimicked mine.

"I'm pretty sure you heard me." He put his Black&Mild to his lips and smoked it. "I understand if you're too pussy to do it. Matter of fact, you can leave, take your boyfriend with you."

I glared at him. "He's my brother."

"Quite frankly, I don't give a fuck."

If I'm being completely honest, the altercation with Ryder still had me shook. I wasn't expecting him to be there and fuck my entire plan up.

I rolled my eyes. So dramatic. "Frank is planing to kill Cole. Trust me, I know."

"How do you know?"

"I just do. The specifics aren't important."

Jessie scoffed. "I'm your partner, and might I add, best friend."

"Yeah? And your point is?"

"My point is, you're not supposed to keep things from me."

I sipped my coffee and rotated in my spinning chair. "I'm not keeping anything from you. I'm just simply not telling you everything I know. Can't you just trust me on this one? You said it yourself, I'm your partner, and best friend."

He thought for a moment. "No."

I'm not going to lie. I actually saw that one coming. Hell, I wouldn't even trust me.

I sighed. "My brother told me, alright? I told him I needed help on this mission. He gave me information, names, etc." I shrugged.

"So, you and Mikey are officially back cool?" Jessie asked. A hint of confusion danced on his goofy face.

"I never said I forgave him for what he did. I only contacted him because I was merely using him. He knew things, and I needed information. Easy solution." I explained while waving my hand in the air, dismissing the idea.

I will always hate my foster brother for as long as I live. Nothing will change that.

Jessie nodded his head slowly. "So . . . what do we do about Frank? We're not really going to kill him are we?"

"We'll do whatever it takes to be accepted into De La Rosa, Jessie. Even if that means killing Lucas. So yeah, we are."

Before Jessie could comment, someone came bursting through the door. I glanced at the intruder. Lindy McDonald. The best tracker at TSS, and the only female I've ever been best friends with.

I looked down at Linda's outfit. She was wearing a yellow sundress that stopped right above her knees, with matching stilettos. The color really brought out her sexy, dark chocolate skin. She walked in, swaying her hips from side to side as her stilettos clacked against the hard floor.

"I have some good news." She smiled, showing off her pearly white teeth.

I glanced at Jessie. He was already looking at Linda with heart eyes. He so has a crush on her. I know it, even if he won't admit it.

"There's my bitch." I grinned. "Where have you been? You left me all alone with Jessie for an entire week."

She shot me a sympathetic look. "I'm so sorry. My flight got delayed."

"It's okay."

She set her purse down on the mini couch I had in my office. Damn. When did she get that?

I smirked. "So you come back from Paris with a new Louis Vuitton handbag? I guess the rich boyfriend strikes again."

She ignored my comment. "I heard you landed yourself the De La Rosa case. Good job, babe."

"Aren't you proud of me mommy?" I asked in a joking tone.

"Well of course sugar." She answered in a sweet southern accent. I laughed and shook my head. "Anyway, I brought you something back."

"Is it a family sized pack of Oreos?" I asked excitedly. What can I say? I love my cookies. More specifically, Oreos.

She looked at me weirdly. "No, silly. I bought you a dress!"

I then glanced at the blue shopping bag she held in her hand. She opened it and took out a gold-looking dress. It was pretty, but it wasn't all that and a bag of Oreos, if you know what I mean.

I mentally groaned. A dress? Really? "Wow. Thank you so much, bestie." I forced a smile and pretended to be appreciative for her benefit.

Linda frowned at me. "You don't like the dress? Why don't you like the dress?"

"I love the dress." Jessie mumbled under his breath, but I still heard him, and so did Linda. She glanced at him.

"Oh, hey Jessie! How have you been?"

"Good." Was his simple response.

I rolled my eyes. Way to spark a conversation, Jessie.

Linda turned back to me. "Now, back to you. Why don't you like the dress?"

"I never said that."

"You didn't have to. Your face says it all."

I ignored her comment and changed the subject. "So, what was the news?"

She looked at me confused. "What?"

"When you walked in you said you had good news. I want to hear it."

Realization struck her facial features. "Oh, that. Captain wants me to help you guys on your mission!"

I squealed like a fangirl at a Justin Bieber concert. "Oh my god! Really? You mean to tell me that I finally get to do a mission with my best friend?"

"Hey!" Jessie interrupted with a small pout.

"Oh sorry. Correction. With my girl best friend."

Linda smirked. "Yep. And together we're going to make that Cole Ryder wish he were dead."

I laughed. Finally, someone gets me. "I like the sound of that."
