Annabeth swung her sword against Jason's bayonet, knocking the barrel out of the way and ramming her shoulder in his chest, knocking him to the ground. Jason groaned, cursing under his breath, as Frank simply sighed and added another point for Annabeth.
"Jason you are becoming predictable, it is no secret that we match when it comes to battle prowess, but if you learn to read my movements and predict my attacks-"
"If I asked for a lecture, I would have gone to the General." Jason groaned, still on the floor. Annabeth shook her head, swinging her sword back in her sheath.
"Uh, Ms. Chase?" A meek voice asked. Annabeth turned on her heel and stared at the scullery maid, holding a torch to the night draped sky.
"What is it, Selena?" Annabeth asked, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"What is that?" Selena whispered. Annabeth squinted at where Selena was pointing her torch. A black mass was approaching them from the black covered rocks. Annabeth's hand clenched on the sword at her side, and she stepped closer as the mass grew larger and faster.
And then Annabeth swore.
Atop the highest mast of the ship, wove a flag of pure ivory black, with two white bones crossed right below a human skull.
The flag of the pirates.
"ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS!" Annabeth roared. The sailors all snapped to attention, scrambling below deck to the cannons or grabbing on deck weapons. Clarrise sprinted out of the Captain's cabin, quickly gathering what was happening and already combat-ready.
The pirate ship finally came into the moonlight, and Annabeth paled.
The deep mahogany wood complimenting the painted railings small doors and windows, where the swirling limbs of a pearlescent Kraken hugged the front of the ship.
Annabeth knew that pirate ship anywhere; she has been hunting them down for years.
The Demigoddess.
"Gods save us." Frank murmured as the pirates on the ship roared in recognition. Annabeth didn't let the scoundrel pirates see her fear; she turned to the sailors who loaded the above deck cannons with shaky hands. She shoved them to the side, taking up the gun herself. She lined the barrel for the bow of the ship, hearing the sailor's shove the cannonballs into the cannon.
But she was too late.
Annabeth gasped as the cannons from the Demigoddess boomed, and deadly canons flew towards her ship.
"Take cover!" Jason roared, ducking down. Annabeth hit the deck, but the railings blew into splinters as the canons collided, and her uniform didn't protect her from flying shrapnels of wood. Her body shriveled inwards as it was sliced and damaged. Annabeth slowly raised her head, her ears ringing and watching everything with lagging vision. Her sailors screamed in protest as another round of cannons struck their ship.
