Chapter 20 - Mafia vs Cartel

▪️J O S É▪️

The three red Hummer H3's contrasted brightly with the dense foliage of the forest. Dominic had asked José to meet him at a secret location during the middle of the day.

It seemed like an odd place to hold a meeting, but the Cartel boss was not about to pass up on the opportunity.

"What sort of meeting place is this?" Miguel absent-mindedly fidgeted while standing next to his brother, his warm breath coming out in light puffs in the cold air.

Tugging at the sleeves of his winter coat, "¿Qué onda, güey?" Roberto teased as he asked what was wrong, his smirk widened as he questioned, "Scared, brother?"

"You know how I feel about creepy forests, and I hate the cold!" he muttered in reply.

Standing in silence, José kept his eyes fixed on the black SUVs that had been waiting in the clearing when they arrived. He knew that Dominic sat in one of the vehicles, observing them momentarily before deciding to make his entrance.

"Try not to do anything too stupid," José instructed his men as he shifted under his black leather trench coat.

"Sí Patrón!" the twins answered concurrently, standing more at attention.

At that moment, the doors of all the black SUVs opened. Men in long black duffle coats exited, most of them visibly armed. Dominic Calvetti stepped out of the vehicle slowly, wearing his signature dark purple pinstripe suit that was visible through the open lapels of a black fur coat.

"Gentlemen! So glad you could make it! I hope that you didn't have any trouble finding the place. Heh!" Dominic chuckled as he walked into the middle of the clearing, enjoying the cold air against his pale face.

The Fuentes twins stood silently, momentarily captivated by the sound of the mafia boss' strange laugh, as well as his appearance. The paleness of Dominic's skin with his silvery white hair was even more disturbing to them in person, and their eyes widened as they openly stared at the man before them.

"What a freak!" Miguel hissed under his breath to his brother, who nodded slightly in agreement.

"The two-hour flight up was good!" José spoke up as he stepped forward, "I must say though, you're a hard man to track down, Calvetti. Thank you for finally agreeing to meet."

Dominic had been silently observing the Mexican men while he had been sitting in the SUV. He knew the reputation of the Sonora Cartel, and for the sake of his city, was aware that he needed to be extra vigilant when dealing with them.

"What can I say, García, I'm a busy man. Besides, you know my stance about your drugs. If you wanted to talk about something else, we could have easily had our second in commands discuss the preliminaries over the phone," the tone in his voice was even.

A slight wind blew around them, causing a few strands of the Cartel boss' ponytail to sway. The Mexican watched Dominic as he spoke, taking in his body language, noting that his poised stance gave nothing away.

What José observed before him, was a powerful man full of confidence. One who did not fear the Sonora Cartel.

"You know what they say, only bosses deal with bosses," José said, his Spanish accent strong, "which is why I preferred to speak with you, and in person at that. Your reputation is widely known, even down in Mexico they know of the great Dominic Calvetti."

Standing with his legs slightly parted, Dominic replied, "Just get straight to the point, García, there's no need to stroke my ego. What is it that you've come out all this way to offer me? I'm running low on time here."

José frowned slightly, not used to being spoken to that way, but even he had to admit that he was impressed with Dominic. He could respect a man who did not waste time with too many words, wanting to get right down to business.

"Fair enough," the Mexican commented before continuing, "since you're not interested in our drugs, I thought perhaps you would be more open into investing in our liquor and women?"

"Well, they say that variety is the spice of life after all. Tell you what, have your men send some samples to Vincent here," his head tilted to his second in command's direction "then perhaps we can talk business after we've sifted through the merchandise."

Fingering his moustache lightly, José replied, "Sounds good, I look forward to doing business with you. We'll be in Aelbank City for a few days, checking out the sights and such, before we head back to Miami."

Rolling his neck, until it cracked, Dominic replied, "I do hope that you enjoy your stay, be sure to keep out of trouble yea?"

"Is that a threat or a piece of advice?" he asked, his gold canines gleaming as his dark eyes focused on Dominic's pale face before scanning the armed men that stood next to the black SUVs.

He chortled lightly before stating, "I don't know, García, you can decide."

Making a gruff sound in his throat, José turned his back and walked towards his men. They got into their Hummers and drove off.

"That pendejo is really creepy! Did you see how he looked? His skin was so pale, I have never seen anything like that!" Miguel mouthed off as soon as they got back in their warm vehicles.

Roberto fumed, "I didn't like the way he talked to you, Patrón! I wanted to shoot him so bad!"

Smiling slyly, José said, "Relax you two, Calvetti will get what's coming to him soon enough. When you know what a man wants, it shows you who he really is, and that's when you'll know how to get him to do exactly what you need him to."

The twins calmed down, identical grins forming on their faces at their boss' words.

Lighting a cigar, José exhaled some smoke out of the crack in the vehicle's window, "I'm sure that there's something that matters greatly to him. Everyone has a weakness. We just need to find that delicate spot and apply the pressure. Once we've managed that, bringing in the drugs will be easy."

"But we'll still be introducing small doses as planned, sí?" Roberto asked, his smirk widening as he looked over at his brother.

"Naturally, but we'll have to be very discreet. Calvetti clearly runs a tight ship and it'll only be a matter of time before he finds out that we're double crossing him. Hopefully by then we should have the upper hand," José stated, as he took another pull from his cigar.

Things were definitely going to get interesting.

A/N: Dun Dun Duuuun!

The term "¿Qué onda, güey?" translates to 'what's up dude' as güey translates roughly to "dude" or "man" in Mexico, so where in Spain you might ask a friend, ¿Qué pasa, tio? you'd be much more likely to say, ¿Qué onda, güey? in Mexico.
