The sun slowly arose from the horizon, like a chameleon coming out of it's camouflage. slowly, gracefully, it kissed the verdant grass on top of the hills of this petite town in Japan.

The forestation surrounded this town like a lion, protecting its cub, providing it with warmth and safety. The leaves swayed back and fourth in the light, cool wind that brushed everything in its path.

In the air, there was a particularly strong, sweet smelling aroma, that had been escaping from the windows of a small, terraced house on the edge of a long street. The scent had been coming from the kitchen window.

'That smells great honey!' A based voice exclaims with excitement.
'It's almost done!' A high-pitched voice replied. 'Kairi! Put the eggs away for momma please?' She requested. A small boy, about 4'9, turned around and grabbed the packet of eggs and placed them in the fridge. He got on his top toes to reach the top shelf, where the eggs go, and he just barely did it, letting out grunts as he pushed himself to do it. The based voice chuckled 'oh son! You're so small it's adorable' the child's face went red with anger. 'Mamaaaaa. Daddy is being mean again!' The child raised his voice. His mother darted the most devilish eyes to his father, with caution and fear in them. The father's chuckle disappeared. He cleated his throat and stated ' I was only joking Kai'

The family sat down to eat the delicious strawberry pie that Kairi's mom had baked for all of them.

His mother grabbed a decently sized knife and cut a slice for each of them, giving Kairi a bigger slice then both her and her husband had gotten.

Kairi grabbed the fork next to him, and eagerly cut off a tiny part of his piece of pie. He stuck his fork through the piece, some of the juice squirted on to his plate, and some back at him, hitting his shirt. He let off a slight giggle, he was always happy when his mom cooked, it just had something special to it, he could never quite place his finger on it though it was like...

magic to him.

He lifted the fork up to his mouth, the sweet, delicious smell of the pie travels up his nose and down his throat, almost dribbling at it. He opens his mouth to reveal a set of pearly white teeth, about to become messy with this delicious treat. He bludgeoned the fork into his mouth. Closing his teeth to trap the pie onto his tongue, he took the fork out of his mouth, and his tastebuds exploded. The lightness, the sweetness, everything hit Kairi's mouth at once like a firework show, a new flavour every second. He jumped in excitement. 'Momma this is the best pie ever!' He said with a lisp.
'Thank you Kai..' his mother said with a gentle tone

'Now finish eating so we can...'

BANG

Their front door flings off the hinges and onto the floor, causing all 3 of them to jump out of their seats. 'Kairi!' In the bathroom now!' His mother demanded. The both ran into the small bathroom to the side of them.

'Mom..mma. W-what's hap-pening' Kairi asks while clinched to his mothers right arm. 'Shhh Kairi it'll be other soon don't worry' she whispered into his ear.

The sound of glass smashing caused both of them to quiver in fear.

'Where's the kid Thomas?' A deep, unknown voice questioned Kairi's father. 'You're not having him!' Thomas screamed back with all of his night.

Suddenly, a plan clicked inside his mother's head. 'Kai...' she started, he looked up to her. She gazed into his purple eyes, with tears trickling down her cheek 'I need you to close your eyes and think about your aunt Melody for me please'
'Wh-y' he questioned.
'Don't ask just do it!' She heightened her voice. Proceeding, he got onto the floor, lifted his knees up to his face and closed his eyes. 'I love you Kai' his mother stated as she chocked on her tears. Moments later, Kairi heard the door open... then an unearthly, ear-piercing screech traversed through his ear drums, but he kept his eyes closed, like he promised he would.

After a minute or so, everything went silent. Kairi opened his eyes, and he was no longer in the bathroom. He was on a hard wood floor, to what appeared to be a living room. Kairi looked around for anything that could tell him where he was, all he saw was antiques, books, charms, and..

A woman.

She looked just like his mom, but with a lighter skin tone and a more emphasised face. 'Momma?' Kairi asked as his lips trembled with fear and confusion. 'No Kairi, it's aunt Melody' the woman replied with a soft, caring voice. She hugged him and informed him 'You're with me now, in New Jersey' Kairi looked at her with confusion. He lived in Japan, how did he get to New Jersey in the matter of minutes?

It was almost like... magic

But that's a question for another day..
