Arthit's POV
Do you know what is the most painful thing that you could make a human go through?
Waiting.
Heartbreaks, failures, and even losses take a back seat when this giant enters the room. Especially when you are waiting to know about the recovery of a person close to your heart. It makes you wish you had enough wits to design a time machine so that you could fast forward your life. Or at least hope that you were born in an era which has one handy.
By the time my mind had stopped picking out the cliched contents of a sci-fi novel, I heard my name being called out at a faint distance. I felt a hand on my shoulder shortly after that shaking me back to reality. I looked to my left to see Kongpob with a smile that tried to give me my much-needed strength, although his dark-circles adorned eyes told me a whole different story.
"I have spoken to the nurses. They say it's okay for us to see P'Prem now. Wad has been in there with him for a while. I thought you might want to see him as well" he said.
Humans often take the things we are blessed with for granted. Be it a simple handshake to greet a person that you have newly met or the warmth that the love of your life offers when he holds your hand. We never think twice about how losing it might make us actually miss it more than we could ever imagine until you are forbidden from the said act. We are constantly running on this race called life where the destination is the same for every human but the journey is what makes each life unique. Ironically, we focus on reaching a goal that we have set for ourselves and don't pause to take in these little moments that actually makes our journey worthwhile.
Yeah, this is what I have become. A simple reassuring squeeze of my hand from Kong and I am suddenly a philosopher analyzing the deep impacts that every small action of ours has on our lives.
Or people would just tell me I think too much.
"Sometimes you need to put a mute button on that mind of yours," Kong said leaning back on his seat and cracking his neck to relieve few stress knots. I should have gotten defensive but the fact that he still can read me like an open book even after all these years left me more surprised than angry.
"I am not thinking about anything" I tried to lie. However, it didn't last long as it took only a second of his knowing smirk to make me blush like a teenager and avert my eyes. It has nothing to do with his handsomeness despite that tired eyes, rolled-up sleeves, crumpled shirt, and messy hair, mind you. I was just embarrassed because he had called me out on my obvious lie.
It came as a perfect excuse to run away from him without getting caught squirming in my own seat when we heard some arguing and metal object clattering to the ground. I stood up swiftly and started walking towards the noise, even though it was not my business to be nosy, with Kong following me. I turned towards the corridor where the arguing voices were becoming louder as we drew closer.
Everything happened so fastly that we didn't have enough time to stop the punch that Kyle threw at the guy he was holding by the collar. From all the years I have known him Kyle is definitely not your fighting type. Not because he was afraid or didn't know enough self-defense but he always said he was too smart to get himself into something that he thought as useless. 'I am a man of law and I have always taken down powerful people to their knees for their wrongdoings just by my words' he used to say.
If you are a strong believer in supernatural then you would definitely say that Kyle was possessed by some bloodthirsty predator just by the look on his face right then and he was not the poster-human against violence like he used to be. What was surprising than Kyle in assassin mode was the expression of the guy Kyle had drawn blood out of. He was grinning like someone who had won the fucking lottery rather than a guy who practically got his face dented in.
