It was only a couple of hours after the Alex's plane landed. He was hoping not to be Egypt long, and he needed to get the meeting out of the way quickly, even if his bus for Siwa, near Razim's desert fortress, left at eleven p.m. His plan wasn't much. He just needed to get there, and hopefully, Simon could help him out with whatever came next.
Alex was sitting at a small, but rather nice cafe somewhere in Cairo, right where he had called Simon to meet him, (He had looked the place up when he was finding a hotel) when a boy with fair hair and a bead necklace approached him. He didn't seem to be in a good mood.
Alex wasn't counting on him being in a good mood, so therefore, everything had gone as expected. Though that didn't stop Alex from squirming in his seat. His worlds were about to collide. It was one of the biggest moments of his life. He was just waiting for somebody bad to show up, or Simon to whip out a gun.
Though the latter was highly improbable. Alex didn't see the telltale bulge of a gun on Simon, and he knew Simon. Didn't he?
"Thanks again for meeting me," Alex began to say when Simon was only an arm's length away from the table
Simon scowled. "Well you know who I am, Rider -or whoever you are- seems only fair that I know who you are," and he plopped down in to the only other seat at the table, directly across from Alex.
"But first, you've got promise not to interrupt, then we'd be here all day," and Alex could see the pools of sweat began to form on Simon's forehead, and Alex was beginning to feel a little flushed himself. They may have been demigods, but nothing can compare to the heat of Cairo.
Simon muttered a grudging, "fine," and Alex nodded his head and began to explain. No one wanted to be there all day.
"It started like this.." Of course Alex omitted some of the more recent and more classified events. Alex wasn't ready to relive holding a gun and shooting Julius. Alex didn't think he ever would be ready, but now wasn't the time to figure that out. He had a mission to save Jack.
"So you're not only a demigod, but you're a friggin teenage spy!" Simon slouched back in his chair and threw his hands up in an exaggerated motion. "I'm not sure if you're the luckiest kid in the world or the unluckiest, but your life sucks Alex Rider."
Alex nodded grimly. "I know."
Simon's expression went serious again, and Alex decided that even if he hadn't gotten to know a lot of demigods, Simon was a little serious for a son of Apollo. Of course, that was also the opinion of a spy so, maybe not a that much of an opinion.
"Look Alex, I know you're not telling me everything, but why do you decide to tell me now of all times?"
So Alex gave Simon a brief rundown of the situation. "I basically need an ally. No one believes me. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. You understand what it's like to try to be two different people. I'm tired of pretending like I'm perfectly okay. I just want to be able to..."
"Believe the truth?"
Alex nodded subdued.
Simon smiled grimly. "I'm supposedly the son of one of the most wealthiest men in the world. The truth is something I don't get very often in this world."
"So will you help me?" Alex asked. He dared not to hope for a second. He couldn't bear to have that hoped smashed as well.
Simon thought for a moment. "Yes, I will. But just so we're clear, we are keeping all of this to ourselves."
Alex almost snorted. "Like anyone would believe us. The son of a billionaire and a teenager spy. We should have our own comedy show."
"Ah, more like a horror movie."
"I think you've won," and so Alex walked back to the hotel that day hopeful, and dared himself to smile a little bit. Things had gone right, just a little bit, and then you know, because Alex is the son of luck, and his life was just that ironic, he ran into a little bit or more like a lot of trouble.
Welcome one and all. I know it's overdo, but hey I did it. I hope you liked this chapter. I know its a little short so sorry about that. I can't really fix it. Also, I need to know, how do y'all want me to do Never Say Die. I can go through the whole book, but I really don't want to do that, I can pick certain events that Alex's demigodness would have made an impact on (like you know there's ALL those kids, and at least ONE has to be a demigod because its a small world after all), or I could have one big summarization. Also, I'm really not sure how to use Simon, if y'all have any suggestions feedback is always appreciated.
Happy Holidays,
Me
