For the rest of the evening, Xavier avoided Rye. If she tried to approach him, he would walk away in the other direction.
At first, it was humorous to Rye how silly he was being. But he was starting to hurt her feelings. Especially when he danced with the other girls in gold.
Sulking in a corner, Rye watched Xavier on the dance floor with a redhead in his arms.
"I see you didn't wear the dress I sent," Ellanore's voice came up from behind Rye.
It instantly irritated her. "No," she sighed, turning to face the woman. "It didn't match my nails."
Ellanore sipped her drink, "Your mother is here."
"Is she now?" Rye asked bored.
"Have you spoken to her?"
"I don't have anything to say to her." Rye said still watching Xavier.
Ellanore followed her eyes, "That's what...the eight girl he has danced with tonight."
Ellanore laughed quietly. "Enjoy your evening," she said turning away, "And please, try not to create chaos tonight."
Rye rolled her eyes. She had no energy to bicker with the hag tonight. Her own game had backfired on her. As she watched Xavier dance, her heart burned and flames danced across her vision.
Spotting Max at the edge of the dance floor she marched up to him.
"Let's go," she said to him taking his hand.
Max didn't complain. He chugged the rest of his drink and followed Rye to the dance floor.
"Put your arms around my waist," Rye instructed Max.
The blond boy, slightly drunk, followed, "You are so beautiful," he said.
"Thanks," Rye said flatly. They began to sway with the music and pretty soon, Xavier and his partner were next to them.
"This dress looks amazing on you," Max continued in his drunken state.
Rye's eyes flickered to Xavier slightly before she smiled up at Max, "Thank you," she said batting her lashes.
"Man, why did we break up?" Max looked down at Rye's chest.
"Do you miss me, Max?" Rye asked. She knew very well Xavier could hear them very well.
"Ah-uh," Max nodded, his lids were starting to close slightly and his movements were sloppy, "I wanna kiss you."
She watched in horror as Max closed his eyes and puckered up. He leaned forward and Rye leaned backwards. Placing her palms against his chest, Rye pushed Max back slightly.
"Max," She said laughing nervously, "Stop."
From the corner of her eyes, Rye saw Xavier marching up to her. She knew she had to handle Max before Xavier got involved. Quickly stepping out of his arms, Rye grabbed his left ear and twisted it.
The boy gasped in pain and feel to his knees, "What was that?"
Before Rye could answer, Xavier's angry voice spoke from behind her. "Get out."
Rye turned to Xavier as Max stood up slowly.
"No damsel in distress here," Rye said sarcastically, "Move along. I'm sure your fans are waiting."
