The next day, Kesha stood outside the room she knew Demi was occupying.
She jiggled around from one foot to the other, willing herself to just knock.
"She is awake," a voice said from behind her. "She won't mind."
Kesha turned, becoming face to face with her Aunt.
"I'll tell you what," Diana said and began leaning forward. "I'll knock for you."
"No!" Kesha protested, catching Diana's arm. "Don't, I can do it."
She then knocked confidently before walking in, her head held hight.
"Stubborn," Diana thought and let a smirk slip onto her lips. "The Lovato family trait."
Demi was sitting up in bed, a cup of coffee in one hand and a meditation book in the other.
She was shocked at Kesha's appearance, amazed that the young girl wanted anything to do with her.
"Kesha, are you alright?" She asked in astonishment.
"Yeah... Of course," Kesha mumbled in reply. "I just... You see... Demi, I'm sorry..." She said finally, tripping over her words.
Apologies weren't something that came naturally to Kesha and she found them difficult.
"Oh, baby girl, it's okay." Demi soothed, setting her book and coffee down.
"I know you're only trying to help. But I just don't want help. I'm sorry, I just don't. It's not something I can help," Kesha explained.
"You're not trying," Demi pointed out. "You have given up before we have even began..."
"Pretty much," Kesha shrugged. "I guess I just wanted you to know that you trying to help does make you a pretty great person, Demi. Even if you're a pain..."
"It just means I like you," Demi chuckled.
She pushed her glasses on top of her head, running her fingers through her still knotted hair.
"What are we doing today?" Kesha asked, shifting uncomfortably under Demi's gaze.
"We're not doing anything," Demi grinned. "Me and mum are going to visit your parents."
Kesha felt the blood rush from her cheeks, fear penetrating her very soul.
"Don't worry, sweetie. We're going to fix everything!" Demi grinned, causing Kesha to roll her eyes dramatically.
"I highly doubt that," she said miserably.
"Don't be so pessimistic!" Demi complained, annoyance creeping onto her features. "We all have it bad, honey. Some people worse than both of us put together!"
"Yeah, I'm a selfish brat. I already know that," Kesha retorted stiffly. "No need to go around pointing it out!"
"That's not what I said!" Demi protested, hurt lacing her voice.
"Yeah, well you didn't have to... I'm not that stupid, okay? I know exactly what I am," Kesha spat.
"Then you know you're beautiful and perfect and smart and funny and crazily sarcastic when you want to be. You know fine just the way you are," Demi replied.
She smiled down at Kesha warmly, pleased at her comeback.
"There's no such thing as perfect," Kesha whispered before walking out.
She walked to the bathroom in a daze before putting the toilet lid down and sitting curled up on it.
"There's no such thing as perfect," she thought miserably. "But I wish there was. Why do I want it so badly when it's just an illusion. Why, why, why?"
"Baby gitl, are you alright?" Demi called through the bathroom door. "Can I come in?"
"Sure, Demi. Who even cares anymore?" Kesha replied bluntly.
Demi entered and kneeled down in font of her.
"Oh God, Demi! Don't propose!" Kesha cried in mock horrible.
Demi burst out into her famous infectious laughter.
"See! I told you, you're funny!" She spluttered out.
"Okay, Demi, it wasn't all that funny." Kesha chuckled, a small smile snaking it's way onto her features.
"What can I say? I my bones aren't just funny, they're humorous!" Demi laughed, before cracking up at her own joke.
"Oh, Lovato! That was painful!" Kesha said and rolled her eyes.
Demi grinned at Kesha before becoming serious again.
"Now seriously, Kesh, are you okay? Because if you're not-" Demi began.
"No, Demi. I'm fine," Kesha cut her off. She quickly shot her a fake smile. "Really," she reassured.
"Well, okay... If you say so," Demi shrugged and got up. "Now I will see you later."
She quickly leant forward and kissed the top of Kesha's head, much to the girls annoyance, and went to find her mother.
Kesha watched her go silently. Praying that somehow everything would be okay.
For once anyway...
