Marriage, In name only?

Part Eighteen

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Mark and I got up early every morning to wait for the Richardson’s guys to show up for work. After the first couple of days they no longer brought food with them. Since I would insist that they would eat here. In just the first month they had put in the concert floor and put up the walls. It was amazing to see how quick they worked together. Mark helped them also and they showed him what to do. It was very nice of them to let him help. Even though he did not know any thing about building.

But today Mark and I had to go to a Doctors visit. So that means I have to drag him back inside. Kyle came over every morning also. I think he liked to be here with us. I think he was lonely.

Mark and I pull up into the parking lot and get out to walk inside. I have an appointment to have an ultra sound done and Mark is going to be able to see and hear our baby.

“Mark are you ready for this?” I asked him.

“Yes. I can’t wait to see him or her.”

“Which one would you like to have a boy or a girl?”

“Either one or even better have both.” He said with a laugh and a smile.

Just then a nurse came out and told us that they were ready for me. I climbed up on the lounge like table. And lay down. They told me to pull my shirt up to show my belly and push my shorts down low. My big belly was really out for you to see. But Mark just put his hand on my belly and gave it a small caress.

Dr.Casio Came and sat down on the little chair.

“Hi Carla. Mark it is so good to see you. I am very happy that you are home now.”

“Thanks Doc. It’s good to be home.”

“I’ll bet it is. Now lets check out your baby. I am going to put some jelly on this. Then place it on her stomach and move it around and take some measurements of the baby. I will point out the head and other things to you ok?”

“OK” We both said.

Dr. Casio did just as she said she would. I could hear the heart beating. Mark was looking around trying to find the source of the sound.

“What is that noise?”

“It’s the baby’s heart beat.”

“Really? O wow that is so…..” He stopped.

“Wonderful.” I supplied.

“Yes wonderful Carla. Just like you are.” He gave me a quick kiss and held my hand.

“Here is your baby’s heart.” It was blurry to see but we could make out some of the things she pointed out to us. She took some still pictures and measured the heart. She showed us the stomach and a foot popped into view. And after a few more pictures she stopped.

“Would you like to know the sex of your baby?”

“I guess so. That way we know what to buy. Instead of white and yellow.”

“OK Dr. Casio. Tell us what are we going to have”

“You are going to have a baby girl.”

“Wow. That’s great, a girl.”

“That is good news. She will be healthy?”

“From what I can tell. She will be a healthy and happy baby, Carla.”
