"Camille! Get your lazy self out of bed this instant! Don't make me go up there and drag you out of bed again. It would be the second time this week! Hopefully you're wearing more than panties and a bra this time," Shouted my best friend, Rick. I could practically see the smirk on his face. He was probably downstairs, in the kitchen.
My eyes fluttered open.
"Go away Rick, its 2 am!!" I hollered, hoping he would hear me. I glanced at my alarm clock to discover it was already 1:00 pm.
"Great." I groaned aloud, to no one in particular. I slid out of bed and dressed hurriedly. I didn't want to give Rick an excuse to pour a glass of ice cold water on me again.
I brushed my teeth, and put my curly, autumn brown hair into a messy ponytail. Grabbing my phone and converse, I sprinted downstairs, nearly falling in the process. That earned a roar of laughter from my tall and gorgeous best friend. When I say gorgeous I really mean it. He has beautiful hazel eyes, and perfect, slightly tanned skin. His pitch black, cropped hair was messier today than others, but he still looked good. He is the most popular guy at school, football star and all. Every girl desires to be with him, every guy desires to be him and all that blah stuff us, hormonal teenagers say. It's quite amusing when people around us often assume we're "an item", but we shrug it off laughing. We've been friends and only friends since preschool.
"Way to go Camille, don't kill yourself." He said between fits of laughter.
"Hey! I didn't even fall. Plus, you know I'm not coordinated, Rick." I defended myself, while putting on my converse.
"Anyways, what the hell are you doing here, interrupting my much needed sleep?" I whined. "And who in their right mind let you in?"
"Your parents, duh Cam." He explained, making it sound as if he was talking to a three year old. "I swear, sometimes I think I'm the only smart one in our group." Rick credited himself.
"Speaking of my parents, where are they now?" I asked, going to the fridge and taking the orange juice out.
"Emergency business trip, they said they'll be away for a week. I arrived here right before they left. They were going to leave a note, but I got here. So they said to tell you that they love you and to take care and to not do anything stupid. Also, your mother wants you to know that there's more than enough money in your account for you to endure a week on your own. You know parents, all that kind of nonsense." He concluded taking a seat on the bar stool.
"Yeah right, a business trip my grandma's underwear! Dad's probably in Greece visiting his college friends and I bet you Mom flew to France to see her beloved twins." I said the last part in a high pitched voice.
"Oh well. I suppose we have gotten ourselves a week of pure enjoyment. If you don't include the fact that we have to face another week of high school with insanely sex-crazed, immature, bipolar, hormonal kids before the winter break. I-"
"We're seniors in high school too you know." Rick interrupted.
"I know that, but you and I actually behave like young adults." I said convincingly.
"What are you talking about? You and Jessie act like little kids, whenever you guys talk about Harry Potter." He argued.
"One time... That was one time, Rick. Plus, that kid that sat behind us in geometry class was the one who started the entire argument when he said that Harry Potter sucked!" I said , while I remembered that day.
"I wonder when my parents will be getting back. I know they won't be returning in a week like they always say." I said. Rick noticed my abrupt change of mood because he stood up, trotted over to me, and cupped my chin.
"Baby, don't make that face. You know they didn't have any other choice. Your mom didn't disturb you this morning because she's noticed how you've seemed exhausted lately." He said, trying to lighten me up.
"I know...it's just that I wish they were home more often. Even when I was a kid, they were never home for more than two months at a time."
"But anyways I guess I'm used to them leaving without warning all the time...so I guess we have the whole house to ourselves again." I ended with a smile.
"You're right, we do. Hey, so it's Saturday! What do you want to do? We can do anything you want." Rick said with a mischievous grin on his perfect face.
I know what you're thinking. That I have a crush on my best friend, but I don't. He is just too good-looking for his own good. He always has the bimbos stalking him, and then hating me for being his best friend.
"Earth to Camille...hello...anyone there...?" Rick waved his hands in front of my face.
"Oh sorry, I just spaced out for a second. What were you saying?"
Rick sighted, "I was asking you what you wanted to do the rest of the day."
"Um...I don't really know I'm not in the mood to really go anywhere."
"Well then, I guess I'll just leave now, since it's clear that I am not appreciated nor loved here." He faked being hurt while turning around to leave.
I reached out my hand to stop him from leaving. "Oh please! Stop being a drama queen. Of course I love you silly. Who loves Baby Ricky? I do!" I chanted.
We both burst out laughing. "Ha! Now that's more like it. You had me worried there for a second Baby Cam." He said using his nickname for me.
"Don't worry yourself. You are not getting rid of me for a very long time." I smiled faintly. Somehow I felt as if I was lying. I had that feeling again. The same bad feeling I had when I woke up from my nightmare this morning.
"What's wrong Cam?" He asked seriously.
"Cam, look at me, what's wrong?" He asked again; this time with concern clearly written on his face.
"Nothing, I just-"
"I know you too well Camille Sterling. Do not lie to me." He said, rolling his eyes.
"You had the dream again." It wasn't a question. It was a statement. Rick is the only person I trusted enough to confess the dreams to.
I only nodded my head. "It'll go away soon. I promise." He stated sincerely, and gave me a death tight embrace. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
