The Sunset Dragon

Magnificent in color and size

A creature so feared for no reason at all

But yet, a sight for the sore eyes

By the men who would watch you fall

Colours of orange yellow and red

Taller than the tallest mountain

It has been said

That you will roam the earth once again

Wings large enough to cover our city

A face ravaged by man and time

Eyes so beautiful, full of pity

A soul older than most and ever so kind

There was a tale from long ago

That states you will once again live

In the form of those who turn rain to snow

But you will be one who has so much to give

As your figure takes to the skies

The setting sun’s painting in the clouds

Is your shield from a world full of lies

Spread your wings and leave the ground

Blessed with a heart so strong and loving

Cursed to live hunted and forced into exile

Given a mind ever so smart and cunning

While the humans live in fear and denial

Words from the mouth of a broken race

Actions of hate bring forth your demise

A creature with such elegance and grace

Brought to your knees by hatred and lies

Little did the humans know

That a world without a dragon

Is a world covered in thick snow

Where the humans will run themselves ragged

But you will return again someday

In the form of those who broke you down

To show them how to live another way

But for now your spirit flies in the sunset clouds
