Ethan is running looking back every few steps to see if they are still there. Once he loses them for sure he hides behind a fallen tree under the leaves breathing heavily, his clothes are torn up, his hair is tangled and messy from all the running and hiding for 3 years. He hasen't seen his parents nor full civilization for a few months now. He's been struggling to survive for so long he doesn't even want to go back home.
Once Ethan hears the cops officially give up. He leaves his hiding spot to go to his homade hut, it is an abandoned tree trunk with a cut out hole in the middle so he can enter and exit and has a roof made from dead leaves and branches the floor is flat rocks that he found at the creek. He hunts for deer and fish so he can eat, he will occasionally kill a bear here and there.
If he sees a person (which he rarely does,) he will run and hide. Every now and then Ethan will find a stray dog and try hard to keep it alive so hes not alone. While at his hut he hears about 3 people walk.
"Where did the cops go I heard them yelling over here just a second ago," says one of the boys curiously.
"Really Matt, I didn't hear anything are you hallucinating again," says what looks to be "Matts" girlfriend.
