My body jerked awake, straight to a sitting position. My hands clutching the sheets.

Not again.

I looked around the room, thankful that Sophia wasn't in bed anymore. I took a quick shower and got ready.

I walked into the kitchen. The atmosphere was tense and gloomy.

"Morning, everyone." I called out

I went to Sophia, who sat on a stool at the kitchen island eating breakfast, giving her a kiss on the head.

"Good morning, sweet girl."

"Good morning, mommy."

I took a deep breath and leaned on the counter, so I was eye level with her.

"I know this is really bad timing... but mommy has to go visit your abuelo and abuela in Colombia."

She squished her eyebrows together slightly. "What about me? Can't I go with you?"

"I have to talk to them first, honey, and then I promise, I'll take you."

"Okay." Disappoint apparent in her hushed voice, as her eyes travel back to her breakfast.

"You're going to stay here with nonno and nonna for a few days. I need you to be a good girl and stay out of trouble, okay?" I gave her a stern look, full of playfulness as I cocked an eyebrow at her, trying to lighten the mood.

"...but what if you don't come back?" She questioned in the saddest voice.

Everyone froze at her words. The chatter around us had ceases and left nothing but absolute silence. We knew what she was referring to.

I straightened up my back, processing her words as my heart squeezed in my chest. I opened my mouth but no sound came out.

"She's always with you, Sophia, in here, for always and forever, just like she promised." Niklaus' voice breaking the silence, pointing his finger at Sophia's heart.

I looked into his eyes, feeling a shiver down my spine as he looked into mine. I breathed out in relief when Aiden's voice bombarded through the kitchen, pulling our attention to him.

"I'm so ready for Colombia, I've heard great things about the pharmaceuticals."

I rolled my eyes. He slammed down a hand on Niklaus' shoulder.

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I interrupt you eye fucking each other?" He whispered so only Niklaus and I could hear.

"Asshole." I muttered as Niklaus shrugged his hand off harshly.

He barked out a laugh. "Are you ready to go, puttana?"

"As ready as I'll ever be."
