'Yellow really suits you' Sana said to me as we sat down together to start the henna ceremony. Sana managed to gather some of our college friends and my mother invited some of her friends and close neighbors so we can inform them about the wedding. Even though Mama said she'll only invite some people, our entire living room was filled with women of all ages. My father set up a small area on the terrace for his friends or any other men that came along.

'Not having any second thoughts are you?' She whispered as she leaned closer to me.

'No' I looked at her and smiled. I had no space for second thoughts. Minutes later the henna artist arrived with two more girls and everyone started to get their hands painted with the henna paste.

'Make sure you write her husband's name on her hand, not by accident this time' Sana said to the lady who was doing my henna and it reminded of the time when his initials were mistakenly drawn on my hand during Sana's henna ceremony.

Just moments after I got my henna done, Zain's side of the family came with gifts and the bridal outfit to be worn at the time of the Nikah. The dress Anum and I selected together was finally stitched and looked even prettier with all its accessories. The music and dholak started playing and everyone started singing along and dancing on the melody. Seeing everyone so happy, especially my family was so special to me. My mother probably waited for this time for so long and now she was finally experiencing this joy through me.

'This is for you' Anum finally sat next to me after meeting and talking to everyone else, everybody wanted to talk to the sister of the groom. She passed me a small white glitter box and I opened it and saw a gold bracelet, it was custom-designed with my and Zain's initials inside a small heart charm.

'It's beautiful, thank you' I looked at her.

'I am so happy that you'll be becoming a part of our family soon, we will try our best to keep you happy' She hugged me carefully so my henna doesn't get ruined.

'Why didn't you put henna on?' I looked at her empty hands. She stopped smiling, why was she still stopping herself from experiencing such joys of life.

'Please just a small design...for me?' I asked her and after some hesitation, she finally agreed.

'Come with me' Sana came to us and stood in front of me while Anum was getting her henna done.

'Where?' I looked at her.

'Please...just for a moment I'll tell you' She gestured toward the door. Taking my elbow, she led me towards it.

'Where are you girls going?' My mother asked us.

'She needs to use the washroom' Sana replied quickly and led me out the door before my mother could stop us.

'What's going on, where are you taking me?' I asked her as she secretly led me to the back of the house.

'Sana...can you...' I stopped as soon as I spotted Zain in front of me, grinning at me. I looked at Sana, aware that his eyes were on me.

'I'll be your watch guard...five minutes' She glanced at Zain who nodded in her direction before she disappeared out of our sight, leaving me alone with Zain.

'You shouldn't be here' I said quickly to him, ready to rush after Sana but he hurried towards me to stop me from leaving.

'Where else should I be a day before our wedding?' He replied, leaving me out of words.

'I told you I'll come to see you' I glance up at him and found him looking at me thoughtfully.

'You kept your word' I couldn't help but smile in return.

'I intend to' He said warmly.

'Are you happy to see me?' He asked.

'You know I am' I said nervously.

'I always want to see you happy, I hope you know that' He said directly to me as he walked closer to me.

'I better get going,' I blushed but just and I was about to turn around he gently secured his hand on my arm and I stopped.

'This night is going to take forever to pass' He said to me.

'It'll pass' I whispered back.

'Give me your hand' I asked him and he looked at me with a hint of confusion but still extended his hand. I cautiously brushed the side of my henna painted fingertips on the palm of his hand to leave a small stain there.

'This is for good luck and longevity for our married life' I said to him and he drew me into his arms.

'You are my good luck' I heard him say.

'I really have to go now Zain, everyone must be wondering where I am' I said to him and he released me and I started walking to the front to look for Sana. I turned around and saw him looking at me.

'You're not leaving?' I asked quietly.

'Not yet, you go...I want to see you for as long as I can' He smiled.

'See you' I beamed and he nodded. Despite how much I wanted to run back to him, I turned around and went to Sana who was waiting for me just a few steps ahead. I joined her and we both returned to the living room.

'What did he say?' Sana stayed back after the ceremony to help Mama with any work around the house.

'He just came to see me' I told her when we were alone in the room.

'He is very romantic' She added.

'And you seem very important to him' She continued.

'It's crazy how we met and now look where we are' I grinned.

'It was destined Maya, nothing happens by accident' I heard her say and I nodded as I glanced at his name that was written on my hand. I was so overwhelmed by how much I liked him or better yet loved him.

'Wasim is here, I'll be here first thing tomorrow morning' Sana informed me and quickly kissed my forehead before heading out the door. Tomorrow was my wedding day; I found the thought very appealing. The day that I once despised was now the day I was looking forward to the most. With that I found myself getting lost again, in his thoughts, the man who I was in love with, the man who was about to become my companion for life. Zain and I were getting married tomorrow.
