Chapter 16: Jane Foster
As soon as we got back to the Stark Tower, we found the rest of the Avengers waiting for us. Clint had called Fury and told him that we had something incredibly important to discuss with him –but since they weren’t on a secure line, he couldn’t elaborate.
Fury had me pinned under his gaze from the second I stepped out of the elevator. I think he was still conflicted about whether or not to trust me. I frowned and gave him the hard drive before debriefing everyone on what I’d read so far.
“The S.P.A has been in contact with Asgard.” I told them, “I don’t know who in Asgard is talking to them but they want Thor taken down.”
“Why can’t Loki just leave us alone?” Clint moaned, putting his head in his hands. I didn’t blame him for that reaction, he did spend most of the time in the battle against Loki on his side, completely brainwashed.
“I don’t think its Loki. In truth, Loki didn’t really want the Earth out of the way; he wanted Thor out of the way. But even now I don’t think he has enough hatred to go through with killing his brother.” Bruce spoke up.
“But Thor isn’t technically his brother.” Tony pointed out.
“Not the point guys.” I interrupted, “The point is, I think we should call Thor back here. If someone is trying to take him out in Asgard he’s not safe. He’s safe around us.”
The whole team agreed but only Fury saw the flaw in my somewhat, unflawed plan.
“And how do you propose we call Thor? The bi-frost has been down since Puente Antiguo was practically flattened.”
I smiled to myself. “There is one girl on earth that had the capability to make Thor conjure up enough dark magic to return here.”
“And who is that?” Steve asked,
“Jane Foster.”

Only a few of us took the trip to Puente Antiguo. Tony, Bruce and Clint joined me in the car. Clint was driving.
We’d elected to take the car because there was a risk, if we travelled by air, we’d be shot down by the S.P.A before we got half way to New Mexico.
Clint drove at twice the speed limit, but by now we were in the middle of the desert and we were the only ones on the road. Bruce sat next to him, flicking through the radio channels to try and find a decent song that was on. Most of the stations played country western and none of us wanted to listen to that, so I handed him my iPod and he plugged it in, going through my songs until he found a song he liked –thankfully, it was AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.
About mid-way through the song I blushed red and realised that this song had been on when Tony had first asked me out. He seemed to catch onto this and he slipped his fingers through mine and pulled me closer in the backseat.
Carefully, keeping an eye on Clint in the front, Tony leaned down and whispered in my ear; “You know, almost all of AC/DC’s songs are about sex.”
My breath caught in my throat and my face got darker. Tony chuckled and pulled me into a hug. His new favourite joke was to put me on the spot with sexual innuendos –sure, I loved making them, being on the other end...not so much.
Warily, I kept my eye on Clint too. Tony and I both knew the only reason he had come along was so he could keep an eye on us. Tony had offered to go as soon as I had, that seemed to scream ‘suspicious’ for my brother. I rolled my eyes and kissed Tony’s cheek just to annoy him.

By the time we saw the ‘Welcome to Puente Angituo’ sign it was early morning. We’d stopped off on the side of the road and slept in the car, only to discover we were half an hour away from the town anyway.
The town was smaller than I remembered. The last time I was here I had been trailing Jane Foster and her new friend, Thor. Not ten miles from here I had actually fought against him before waking up in a hospital bed, feeling like I had been hit by a freight train.
My heart clenched as I remembered that this had been my first and last mission with Phil Coulson. I missed him. Steve told me they had had a funeral for him while I was in the coma but with everything that has been happening lately, I still haven’t gotten a chance to visit his final resting place, say my final goodbyes.
Right now, I just wanted to talk to him. I wanted one of Phil’s rare hugs, one of his goofy smiles. He’d been my best friend and I couldn’t see him anymore.
“Do you remember where Jane’s office is?” Clint asked me, his eyes peering at me in the rear-view mirror.
“Yeah, take a left here, then a right, then two more lefts and it’s the abandoned cafe.” I told him, yawning, not having fully woken up yet.
Last I heard Jane was working with Dr. Selvig and Darcy again. But when we turned up to her ‘office’ there were no signs of them. It was way to quiet, even for a tiny town like this. Jane usually made a lot of noise while she worked and she was always in the office early.
I frowned, jumped out of the car while it was still moving and sprinted to the door, pounding my fist against it.
“Jane!” I called out, “Jane Foster? It’s Noel Barton from S.H.I.E.L.D!”
There was no reply and I called out again. I heard footsteps inside and that was enough for me to kick the door in.
“Noel! What the hell are you doing?” Tony exclaimed, “Get back here!”
I ignored him and ran inside, feeling my palms heating up. “Whoever is in here, I am armed and I have a license to kill if it comes to that. I suggest you show yourself!”
Something was knocked to the ground behind me and I span on my heels, putting my palms out in from of me, feeling the warmth spread through me as the glowing intensified.
“Noel, do not fire. I do not wish to harm you.” I heard Thor’s voice and dropped my hands.
“Thor? What are you doing here? How did you get here?” I asked running up to him and hugging him. I was so relieved to see him okay.
“Jane was calling out to me. I didn’t get here in time, though.” He said sullenly and I stepped back.
Jane’s dead?
“She...she died? How?” I cried as Bruce, Clint and Tony piled through the door.
“Thor! Buddy!” Tony exclaimed, “That was quick.”
“Thor, how did she die?” I asked again.
“Noel, do not worry. Jane is not dead, but she has been hurt.” He said and took me to her. She was propped up against the wall with a huge gash across her pretty face, blood pouring from the wound. Her office had been trashed, and this time, it wasn’t S.H.I.E.L.D’s fault.
“Oh my god, Jane! What happened?” I rushed over to her and tried to help her.
“Some agents came and said they were looking for Thor, that I knew how to get to him. I didn’t tell them anything but they wanted all the research on the Rosenbridges.” Jane explained. “They definitely weren’t S.H.I.E.L.D agents. Something Protection Agency, I think.”
“S.P.A.” I growled, “They got here before we did. Jesus, Jane I’m so sorry.”
“It’s alright.” She patted my arm comfortingly as I helped her up and towards the car, Thor, Tony, Bruce and Clint following suit.

So! How'd you like this chapter? I know, it's really short but the next chapter is pretty long from what I can tell :)
So, Jane finally made an appearence in this story! AND THOR'S BACK! YAY! I missed Thor, he's so cool. Plus Chris Hemsworth is an Aussie, so I am, if you didn't know that. Aussies rule!
Quick note before I go: This chapter hasn't been edited because Watson has a lot of stress on her at the moment and I didn't want to bother her with editing, so when this chapter gets edited I'll post that version, but for the time being, feel free to point out mistakes so I can fix them!
