"How is this possible?" you asked, voice shaking.
"The Force," Kylo said. "That's the most simple explanation."
"I need one less simple," you told him. You shot him a glaring stare. "Tell me."
"The Force can be influenced. This isn't the first time this has taken place in the universe, ___."
It was in the middle of the night, in the middle of your dreams. You were in your room, on your old bed, wearing your old nightgown. The surroundings from the past no longer bothered you. In this moment, only one thing could.
Your teeth gritted. "How?"
Kylo Ren's words sent shivers down your spine. "My great grandmother, Shmi Skywalker, became pregnant with my grandfather because the Emperor influenced the Force to create him."
You dropped your face in your hands. A sob broke from your throat. "So our first baby is no more than a creation of the Force? For this... this monster's future use?"
"I couldn't stop him."
You stood up fast. "Bull!"
"Try to calm down," he said. "You are angry with me-"
"Of course I am angry!" you shouted. "Of course I am! How could you...?" You cried and your voice fell to a whisper. "I am absolutely terrified."
Your hands were on your stomach. It had yet to grow, but you knew that there was life inside of you. A cluster of living, animated cells, a small baby, a heartbeat, a soul. No bigger than an inch but real and there and so alive.
You hadn't been with your husband physically in almost a year, and there was no explanation for this baby. But Kylo knew all when you saw him after going to sleep. He had been waiting for you.
"How could you allow this?" you asked, voice low.
"You cannot truly believe I wanted this," he said.
"I don't know. I might believe it a little. Could you blame me?"
"No," he said.
"You could have stopped him," you breathed accusingly.
He sighed heavily. "I could not. He saw we were having a child in the future, he's seen the visions. But he knew you weren't going to be on his side."
"Nothing you say makes any sense," you said in defeat. You wantes to crumble up into a ball. You were so horrified, so upset. "This can't be real. It can't be."
"I have no control. No say in anything the Emperor commands of me or those around me. Yes, I am the Supreme Leader, but he is the Emperor. I am helpless in all decisions. He informed me of his plans and that's when I first attempted to reach out to you. His plan was to kill you at first, but then he wished to use you a different way."
Your hands tightened into fists so tight that you were shaking. Bile rose from your throat; you swallowed hard to choke it down.
"He has created two people out of the Force in this way," he told you. "Two people to create his own apprentices out of."
You shook your head. "Anakin Skywalker, and who else?"
He looked at you, and you knew. Just like that, you knew. Like it was in front of you this whole time.
"Rey," you said softly. You sank, sitting on the bed now. "Of course. I knew. In a way, I've always known."
Kylo nodded.
"She's a Skywalker, too, then. In a way."
Your heart sank as you began to wonder how your baby fit into this family.
"So what's this baby?" you asked.
"A Solo, a Skywalker. The child is mine, ___. Not a father-less child the way Rey and my grandfather are," he said.
He crossed the room to you and he knelt in front of you. He touched your hands, he touched you for the first time in a long time, and you almost cried. His eyes were on you and he shook his head.
"This is our baby," he whispered. "He is all ours."
You nodded, eyes overflowing. "This is so strange."
"Yes, I know," he said.
"What do I tell them?" you asked.
"Whatever you wish, but you have to get Rey to help you come to me. Together, the three of us can overthrow the Emperor once and for all."
"That's dangerous," you told him.
"Yes. It is." He squeezed your hands. "But we are Skywalkers, all three of us."
Your head tilted to the side. "What changed, Kylo?"
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"What changed about you? You are so different than you were..." You parted your lips and let your air slip between them as you deflated. "You tried to kill me, Ben."
"You know why," he swallowed, and you nodded.
Yes, you did. You did remember. Those gold eyes, sickly yellow, festering with anger and hate. The eyes of a Sith. The eyes of a man under the influence of someone stronger.
"I'm going to find you," you said. "I will kill the Emperor. I will. You have my word." You reached out to touch his face. "I promised you I would protect you for the rest of my life. And I will. I will, Ben."
"I know," he told you. "Stars. I've missed you."
You swallowed. "I'll come back and free you, my love. I promise."
