My head was spinning. I wasn't sure what to think. My dream was...real? Frustrated I plopped face down on my bed. This was not me. I was not the type of person to be pining over someone who I had just met. For goodness sakes, it had taken me four months to finally agree to go out on a date with Trevor. After that, it took me half a year of dates to finally let him call me his girlfriend. Plus, not only was I constantly thinking about this guy, but I was not focusing on my work! The whole reason I am in this city is so that I can finish up my book. I pushed myself up slowly from the bed and sat slumped on the edge. I ran a hand through my hair and looked over at my computer. I had only managed to fix up a few photos the other night. I had about another fifty to go. Not to mention that I had taken zero photos today. Suddenly there was a soft knock on my door. I turned to face it.
"Come in," I answered. The door opened slowly and I saw Vanessa peer her head in.
"Your phone was in the hall..." Vanessa reached in with my phone in her hand. I let out a small laugh and patted the bed next to me. Vanessa smiled in returned and walked in quickly. She jumped and landed near me and then fell over and toppled me. I let out a shriek and pushed her off. I reached instantly for my pillow and twisted my body and swung at Vanessa. The pillow hit her right in the face. I laughed loudly as I leaped from the bed and held my pillow like a shield. Vanessa came after me with another pillow and took a big swing. The pillow hit across my mid section and I let out a grunt. As I tried to escape around Vanessa she stuck out her foot and I fell forward with a plop. Luckily, I had the pillow to soften most of the blow. Before I could get up Vanessa had stradled her legs on my back.
"Victory!" Vanessa shouted holding her pillow in the air. I thought a moment and tried to push myself up from the ground. "You shall never escape!" This was true, for the moment. I then wriggled the pillow out from underneath myself and swung it around and hit Vanessa again in the head. She fell off and wriggled on the ground. "No! No! I have been hit! Help!" We both fell into a fit of giggles on the ground. After catching our breath we both sat against my dresser, each with a pillow in hand.
"I'm sorry, Ness," I said quietly. Vanessa rested her head on my shoulder and sighed.
"Me too, Em."
"So, what now?"
Vanessa sat up and picked at a small hole forming on her jeans.
"I think that you need a break."
"Oh, no. I've had enough 'break time.' I think that what I need to do is just bury myself deep into the whole reason I am here. I need to get back to taking pictures."
"You can take pictures later. It's not fair that this Hayden fellow got to steal you for half the day. It's my turn."
I smiled at Vanessa. She was truly my best friend.
"Alright, but tomorrow I will have NO distractions!" Vanessa clapped her hands and jumped up. She held her hand out for me and I took it standing up.
"Yay! Alright, you get dressed in that blue outfit you bought, just braid your hair back and I'll go get ready."
"W-wait. You want me to change?"
"We're going out into public. You need to look decent," Vanessa replied rolling her eyes like it was obvious.
"So...what I went out in earlier wasn't decent?" Vanessa didn't say anything, just looked me over. She furrowed her eyebrows and sighed.
