(("There is no real ending. It's just the place where you stop the story." ~Frank Herbert))

Toffee's heart was in anguish for his little princess. She had a death grip on his shirt, a grip so tight her knuckles turned white. He was surprised she could breathe, considering her face was smashed into his chest.

They had been standing in the middle of Toffee's living quarters for a while now, holding each other and waiting for the Mewnian palace guards to bust in. Neither of them wanted to think of the outcome of their relationship. Toffee would be taken to the headsman; Elara would likely be locked away for the rest of her life. There wasn't much that could be done. Not even the Monster King could stop Queen Comet.

Elara sniffed and pulled away from Toffee's chest. Her eyes were still red from crying.

"You should probably go." She mumbled, wiping her nose.

"I'm not leaving you.." Toffee took Elara's face in his hands, "I'm in this until the end."

"But I don't want it to end!" Elara's eyes filled with tears again, "I love you too much to let you die, Toffee."

The princess' words were sweet and mournful all at the same time. She didn't deserve any of this pain, Toffee knew. But, Toffee had no other solution. He would have to die to keep her safe. "I don't think we have much of a choice..."

"But we should. This shouldn't be happening..." Elara's head spun. Her ideas were useless. Running wouldn't solve anything; neither would fighting. Was there really no way to save Toffee?

"Elara.." Toffee could see that the young princess was engulfed by her own thoughts. Panic tore her apart from the inside and it pained him to see her that way. "It has to be this way."

"No. No it doesn't." Suddenly an idea sparked. Elara's eyes widened and she looked at Toffee with the most hopeful expression. She even smiled.

"There IS a way... Toffee," She paused to look longingly into the Monster General's eyes and even brought her hand up to caress his cheek, "When the guards come, you have to run."

"No-"

"Toffee, listen to me!" Elara's voice deepened in seriousness, which somewhat surprised the Septarian. Her words were normally very kind to him, now she was ordering him. He had no choice but to listen. "You will run and you will take the Monster King with you. I will put up as much as a fight as I can, that way most of the guards will have to deal with me. Run to the barrier and wait. I'll take the damn thing down myself."

Frowning, Elara growled and balled up her fists. "I'm going to steal the wand."

Toffee shook his head, "It's much too dangerous-"

"And what? Do you really expect me to sit back and watch my mother kill you? No. Way."

She had a point. And she was adamant about it. Toffee had never seen such anger and resentment within his precious princess before. Her body nearly trembled from it's power. He felt sorry for all of Mewni once Elara got her hands on the Butterfly wand. There would be hell to pay.

"Ok." Toffee sighed, "Is this what you want to do?"

With a nod, Elara solidified her plan. "I'm going to save you Toffee, no matter what happens."

Toffee chuckled and pulled Elara in for a final kiss. The guards were close, he could hear them yelling outside. The kiss was deep and passionate, and Elara could hardly stifle a tiny moan. It made the hair on Toffee's neck stand on end.
