I walked out of my cottage ready to go on adventures that would go throughout the day. Chiaki was standing down the pathway looking out at the rising orange sun in the sky.
"Hey Chiaki!" I waved as I walked over.
"Hajime, good morning." her face lit up and her eyes gleamed. She seemed a bit off today but I didn't mention it, I also wouldn't want to come off as rude.
"Did you sleep well?" I questioned.
She seemed a little sad or worried and I hoped she was okay."Well, it was okay I guess." She looked back up at the sky in awe. It was really breathtaking, the light was hitting the plants and pool making it shimmer.
"Want to walk around before we meet everyone for breakfast?" She nodded her head and we began walking down the road.We began to talk about different things and ideas we had about what we would do when we got out of Hope's Peak and how we felt about our school in general.
"I really don't know what I want to do."
I sighed catching my breath.
"I'm sure you'll find something."Yeah sure, a normie like me is gonna find a great amazing unique talented job....
Definitely not me, especially with me not having a talent and all.
But I went along with what Chiaki said and accepted her suggestion, I mean she was only trying to help no reason to get depressed on her."Yeah, probably." I was curious as to why she had so much confidence in me though I didn't really deserve her friendship. She suddenly moved in a bit closer like she was going to say something. She extended a hand only to pull it away when I looked over and saw Kazuichi and quickly waved him over.
"Guys! How's it going!" He was overly enthusiastic, but it was pretty nice to see this morning. Chiaki flinched looking to the ground sadly.
She really was acting weird today wasn't she?"We just decided to walk around for a bit before going to meet everyone."Kazuichi accompanied us along the long road. We must of walked around the whole island because we approached the motel with waves clashing in the background while laughing a little to one of Kazuichi's jokes about Gundham.
That's when I once again saw the tall shadow looking out at the water.
It was strange he was so popular, but I noticed how alone he had been for most of the trip so far. I lost concentration on what Kazuichi had been saying, their laughs becoming foggy and distant.
I stared over at the boy who had his arms folded neatly over his chest looking out at the dark blue ocean. I was shook by my shoulders releasing me from my deep thoughts."Huh?" I questioned dumbfounded.
"You kinda lost your train of thought again dude." Kazuichi chuckled slightly as Chiaki looked over to see what I had been staring at.
Her eyes darted away as she noticed the boy I had been staring at.She appeared to be upset and I was a little worried as to why, I mean he was just standing there.
She glanced back and took a step back when the figure's eyes grew into slits, making a strong eye contact with her.
He began to walk over when I realized....his eyes were red and puffy and his face gave off a shine. He had been crying?
Chiaki looked around worriedly, me and Kazuichi gave each other a look of concern."Are you okay Chiaki?" I glanced at her and she didn't have time to respond when the figure began talking.
"Of course your with him I'm not surprised." I looked over in confusion.
Clearly something was going on here and I did not want to be stuck in the middle of it. and what did he mean by that.
With him?
I stood quietly and watched the two begin to argue."Nagito...listen I'm sorry about our fight and-" She was cut off as he wiped his eyes hard trying to look like he had not been crying.
"You don't even get it do you." He appeared to be more upset than sad now. But I had no idea what fight they had gotten into, it must have been bad though.
Kazuichi stood back pretending not to hear any of the small argument that was growing bigger and escalating quickly.
"Your selfish Nagito." Chiaki looked at him with anger overflowing in her eyes."I'm selfish?!" He squeezed his hand tight in frustration.
Why were they arguing?
Was Chiaki that mad?"Guys, I think we should all calm down a little." Kazuichi finally spoke up trying to get them to stop a building argument.
"Guys lets go I think it's better if we leave, and me and...Nagito can discuss this later.." Chiaki's tone was different than anything I'd heard sense knowing her, and that worried me a bit. His eyesight looked to the ground and I could tell he was really upset."Why can't I have this one thing?" I heard the boy whisper. I wanted to say something but, I was scared of what would happen.
I had always felt that way. But speaking up could help them out, so I did.
"Chiaki what happened?" She shot me a look and I turned to see the boy begin to laugh angrily."Yeah Chiaki, what did happen?" He said with a bitterness in his voice.
She was flustered and really looked like a twig that could snap any minute. "I-just, Nothing happened!" She yelled this time becoming more overwhelmed in the heat of the moment.
"Really? Because I remember you telling me to stay away from Hajime be-" she yelled and finally snapped. spewing out thoughts that were held back."It's not my fault you can't do anything yourself! I always help you, no matter what. I'm your best friend but, you can never do things on your own..." She signed breathing in heavily.
His expression became slightly teary eyed."You don't know what I've been through!" He held back the need to cry but I cringed watching.
"You guys! Enough cut it out!" Fuyuhiko came up from behind Kazuichi.
"I could hear you guys from down the road, why are you all yelling?" He held a worried face."What's going on?" Fuyuhiko looked at Kazuichi who was motioning him to be quiet.
Chiaki held herself still engulfed in anger.I had never seen her that mad.
"I do know what you've been through Nagito, but you aren't thinking about how I'm feeling." She glared at him again. I stood in shock as to how Chiaki was acting, I know he was not the best but he is her best friend."No you don't get it...." he breathed in heavily still holding the urge to cry. He looked over at her as her pink eyes beamed in anger.
"Listen it's not my fault your gay Nagito!" She yelled. It got silent as the only sound heard was the wind whistling threw our hair. Chiaki immediately covered her mouth.
I know she didn't mean it, and evreyone knew she didn't mean it either. But all of us cringed feeling the tense moment subside.
Is he really gay?He shifted uncomfortably looking at Chiaki.
His eyes glistened with tears and his pale face began to get pink. His soft green eyes were now pools of sadness. The trickling of tears began down his face.
I had never seen him that upset, ever.
I thought he was happy.
"Nagito! I didn't mean that!" Chiaki's voice cracked a bit as she held her head.
She felt terrible and it was visibly painful to watch. He looked around at everyone in embarrassment and than at me.
And that's when he stopped and took in air his eyes widened as more tears poured down his ghostly pale skin.
He wiped his face and ran.He just ran and kept running down the road his green jacket trailing behind him.
I looked over at Kazuichi who was in disbelief.
Chiaki was now wiping away small tear drops from her eyes as fuyuhiko comforted her.
I looked down the path the pale boy had ran down.I think it was time me and Nagito talked.
