Jack had taken you back to his office to patch you up. Before long the wound was disinfected, stitched up, and bandaged.
"Good as new!" He gave you a pat on the head and got up from his chair, cleaning up the bloody rags and first aid kit. You ended up bleeding a lot more than you thought you would.
You leaned back in your chair and sucked in air. "Soooooo, I got really angry at the guy."
You paused to see what your boss would say. He just paused to look at you with a raised eyebrow.
"I may or may not have had a little slip up...." You weren't even looking at him now. He wasn't going to be happy.
Jack let out a low rumble, "Seriously? And on a main street too?" He pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a sigh. "Did anyone see you?"
"Not that I know of, it looked clear and it was dark out so I think I'm good." But you felt unsure yourself.
"Just... be more careful next time (n/n). If someone saw there's no telling what they'd do to you." He moved to sit on the edge of his desk and folded his arms.
You simply nodded in response and started towards the door, it was time to go home.
----
The walk home felt longer than it really was. Though you were fixed up, the wound still throbbed with every step you took. When you got back to your place you were more than happy to take a break and sit in your living room bay window. It was just big enough for you to stretch out. You leaned your head against the window and closed your eyes.
Jack is the only person who knows what you really are. He's been kind enough to keep your secret for the few years you've known him and even help cover for you when you had a slip up like the one tonight. When your emotions get a little too riled up the other side of you reveals a bit of itself.
Usually you could control it on a whim but when emotions became too much, you had no way to handle it. You had to be careful. Can't be too angry, too sad, too happy.
At home, it was no big deal, it was just you living in a little one bedroom house and all the windows besides the bay window were covered.Coffee sounds good. Coffee and a shower.
You let out a groan as you got back up and shuffled to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. Once you had that going, you made your way to the bathroom and began peeling off clothes. You didn't want to spend too much time on your feet with how your leg felt so you wanted to make it a quick one. You honestly weren't even sure if it was okay to get it wet.
You shrugged and hopped in the shower anyway. You made it quick, just enough to wash away the day's grime. After finishing up, you made your way to your room, wrapped in a towel, to find something clean to throw over. Pants of any kind didn't sound great so you settled for a (f/c) oversized shirt. Once on, it hit about mid thigh, it just barely covered your ass.
The smell of freshly brewed coffee led you back to the kitchen. You made yourself a cup with plenty of cream and sugar, just how you liked it, and settled back into your seat in the bay window. You glanced at the clock, it was already 11 at night. It would've been a good time to head to bed but you have up on that idea the second you started making coffee. It's not like you'd be able to work the next couple days anyway, not until you healed up a bit at least. You figured you'd just spend the rest of the night finishing off an entire pot of coffee by yourself while you got lost in your thoughts.
----
After spending a few restless days at home, Jack's orders, you were finally able to return to work. Your leg was healing up nicely and no longer limped. It was still sore, but you weren't going to let that stop you. Gotta make that cash and pay them bills.
Today you stuck to a more simple and comfy outfit; your favorite pair of faded blue jeans and a (f/c) top that hung loosely off you frame. The top had a habit of falling off one of your shoulders but you figured that just looked cute so you stuck with it.
You quickly grabbed your boots and made your way to the door, but as you opened it you were greeted by the sight of your boss.
He was shifting from one foot to the other and was looking over his shoulder nervously. His eyes finally met your (e/c) ones and he pushed you back into the house. "What're yo-"
"We need to talk." He almost said it too quickly to follow as he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. He grabbed you by the wrist and led you to the kitchen.
"Sit." You didn't say anything, you just did as he said and waited for him to continue. Jack closed his eyes and spoke through clenched teeth. "Since you dealt with those pirates a few days ago we've had certain..... company at the pub. Daily. They've been watching all the waitresses like a hawk (y/n)."
He paused for a minute, letting it sink in.
"So you think they saw me that night? Why don't you just kick them out? No one would believe one random person anyway." You just wanted to get to work, you were tired of hanging around the house.Jack leaned back against the counter and groaned. "It's not that simple (n/n), if it was just some guy of the street then sure but that's not the case this time."
Anxiety started to build up, you crossed your arms over your chest and let out a shaky breath. "Who is it?"
"One of Big Mom's boys, Charlotte Katakuri."
Everyone here knew that name. Not only was this island close to Big Mom's territory, it was closest to Komugi Island, which was run by Katakuri.
You shook your head. "Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe he's scoping out the island for Big Mom, looking to add it to her territory or something."
"I highly doubt that. From what I can tell all he's found here is the pub, and we don't even sell any sweets." He paused. "Though he does leave for a few hours each day. Don't know where to though." Jack relaxed a bit, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Maybe you're right." He said. "He drinks the entire time he's there, maybe he's just drowning away his worries before he actually works." He chuckled.
Though your island wasn't especially know for any kind of particular sweet, it did still have quite a few good bakeries and candy factories. Though that probably had more to do with it's proximity to Totto Land.
Jack straightened back out. "Okay, come to work in a little bit, give it an hour or so. But I need you on your best behavior in case you were seen. In fact, I'll have you working the bar today and I'll have one of the other girls cover your tables." He started making his way to the front door and you followed behind.
"Oh, and if any fights break out, I'll handle it. If he's looking for a woman busting up fights.... well, that's the last thing I need you doing." Jack left and you closed the door behind him.
You put your back to the door and closed your eyes. You hoped the two of you were over reacting but you weren't sure anymore. The Big Mom pirates didn't come to this island. Ever. But you were hoping it was just coincidence. Going off the idea that it may be seemed to be the game plan anyway. Might as well just go with it.
