——Season - Spring—
I stepped off my stoop and pulled my cheetah print kangol hat over my head before sneaking a peek down the quiet London street. The bus wasn't supposed to be coming for another thirty minutes but I didn't mind. I hated being late to school & I had no problem walking until it decided to come. I was freezing with my jacket wide open but I was trying to be cute...& who knows, maybe I'd run into James today. Lord knows I was trying to, but the universe was cruel.
I never ran into him when I looked bad and bougie. He always just so happened to be strolling down the block when I was coming home from dance practice looking tired & crazy. Whenever I looked bomb as fuck, that nigga was nowhere to be seen. I rolled my eyes at that realization and pulled my jacket together a little tighter.
I had on James oversize phat farm shirt he'd let me borrow last summer, some baggy iceberg jeans, wheat timbs & my Karl Kani puffer jacket I had just bought last night. Baby was looking good. I unwrapped the lollipop I had forgotten I was holding & promptly slid it between my glossy lips. I hated lip gloss with a passion.
I twisted my lips in irritation as the wind picked up. It was causing stray tendrils of hair to stick to my lips. I flicked them off and wiped the sticky gloss residue from my hair onto the lining of my jacket. Hugging my books to my chest, I continued my trek past London Fields underground station to my bus stop.
I could see the bus in the distance but it was still a while away so I went inside the corner store to warm up. I sighed in relief as soon as the warm heat inside hit my face. I waved at Rico, the guy behind the counter.
Rico was the pretty boy that worked at his parents Bodega and he resembled the rapper Special Ed a lot, they honestly could of been brothers. He winked at me as he saw me entering and continued helping the customer standing at the counter.
He was bopping his head to what sounded like a remix of Best of Me by Mya, but with a reggaeton beat. I needed to remind him to make me a copy of that tape.
Rico was really fine to me and he was around my age, but he just so happened to be James' best friend. He was sweet on me & always let me finesse which I appreciated, but I couldn't do my future bae like that. I just used Rico's fine hispanic ass for tapes, free snacks and the tea on James. He knew what was up. I picked up two bags of cheetos, a bag of gushers, a pack of dunkaroos and a can of Yello - Mello.
I continued to suck my lollipop as our eyes finally met. Rico smirked at me as I strolled up to the counter and bit his lip as I approached. "Well, Well! If it isn't Baby Reynolds...."
I placed my stash on the counter and threw in a random Slim Jim, I loved those things. My breath was gonna smell like hot ass later but it would be worth it.
"And how are you today Rico?" I asked as I held his gaze, digging into my Dapper Dan Gucci handbag for my wallet. "
"I'm good Baby, Always. You know me, same old shit."
What you digging in your purse for? " hey asked confused as I dug around in my bag for my money. I loved how cute his Puerto Rican & English accent sounded. It was different than the London ones I usually heard on the day to day.
"I'm tryna pay stupid! You always do this. You know your mom doesn't like you giving me free stuff." I chuckled as I handed him the 5 pounds that I knew he wasn't gonna take.
