CHAPTER 4: IT'S ALL A MYSTERY

.......................................................................................................................................

As it turned out, the Jarek Weston by my side happened to be the most popular boy in school, he was a picture of perfection, but he was also a bit hard to peg by the rest of the school population. The girls blushed when he swept past their tables and the boys welcomed him wherever he went. He was a God. Upon reading my schedule, Jarek found that we had nearly all the same classes. We had Advanced English, Math, Honors European History, Religion and French together, the only classes we didn't share were my art and his auto mechanics class which was third period, and forth period Photography. He introduced me to so many people my head spun, every girl rushed to know everything about me and nitpicked my outfit, and every guy talked about my new truck in the parking lot. I was getting more attention on my first day than I ever had back home.

In our last class, Religion, there were only seven other people. The teacher was young and experimental. She had light brown hair and eyes, kind and perceptive. She had fashioned the desks in the shape of a u, so that all of her students could easily communicate and express what she liked to call "higher thought." I liked her and this class more than any other. Jarek, ever charming took the seat next to mine and introduced me to the teacher. She had read my transcript already and she knew my story, she didn't ponder whether or not I could keep up with her honors class.

"Okay, since it's almost Christmas we'll be discussing parts of the old testament." I looked over at Jarek then, he seemed utterly amused.

At first the discussion was placed around the life of Jesus and when scholars actually thought he was born and so on. The other students seemed interested enough, but I had lost my concentration and I drifted off into my own world, a world where it was okay for me to study the handsome boy sitting leisurely at my side.

He had long curly hair, with hints of gold on the surface mixed with four or five other shades of brown. His eyes were deep set and a light golden brown, intense and arresting. I knew he felt my assessment so he looked over at me and the corner of his mouth turned up in amusement. His perfectly brown eyebrows arched under my scrutiny and he dazzled me with a full toothed smile, untarnished and pearly white. I snapped my head forward, focusing on the teacher, but a soon as he looked ahead I glanced at him again.

He was flawless in every respect. His black leather Ducati jacket only added to his bad boy appearance. I noticed he wore a white Rolling Stones t-shirt under his jacket, and worn blue jeans with his shoes. Before I turned away to pay attention to my teacher I noticed the silver chain and pendant that was nearly concealed under the jacket. It was an antique, but I noticed there was a black heart in the center, and a delicate pattern wove itself around it's surface, almost consuming it. He shifted again and the pendant was lost from my sight. I had a feeling he had done that on purpose.

The bell rang and shook me out of my daydream. We both got up without any word and headed out the door.

"So, do you have any plans right now?" He asked leisurely

"Nope, nothing." I said as I stared down at my boots in the snow, a blush creeping across my cheeks.

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to get some coffee with me from this new place in town."
