"I don't owe you an explanation."

"Of course you do Spencer! You're in the position that I should be in so you damn well owe me an explanation!" You seethed, fingers curled around the end of the hospital bed bars.

"I just woke up. Can we talk about this later?" Spencer dismissed, his hand fiddling with the IV in his arm.

Rolling your eyes, you spoke sharply. "You woke up three hours ago. You can't keep using that excuse."

Spencer looked at you heavily then. As if trying to explain everything without saying it.
"Y/N" he suppressed.

"Please Spencer, I need to know."

"Because..." he started slowly. The anticipation and guilt causing goosebumps to arise on your skin.

"Because I care about you. And I had a chance to help you. That's all." He spoke quickly, eyes darting any where but to you.

"I guess I'm not the only one you care about." You regretted the words as soon as they escaped your lips. It wasn't fair to put him in this position, especially after he risked his life for you.

"What was that?" His question impales you with tremendous guilt.

"Nothing." You mumbled, busying yourself with playing with the hospital sheets.

Though the intake of smoke made his voice coarse and raspy, you knew he would be angry if you didn't answer.
"What did you say?" He ordered.

"The girl. From the case. The one you kissed. It's not my place, I know. Just forget I said anything. Please."

Spencer squinted his eyes for a moment before the memory of the woman's lips on his and you rushing out the office came crashing in.
He shook his head. "I didn't- you don't know what actually happened. I didn't"

At this point you had already had pulled your bag over your shoulder, the embarrassment making the room heavy with tension.

"You're right. I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm happy for you though. Really Spence, I am."
You hated the croak in your voice as you spoke. And you hated the tears brimming your eyes even more.

Spencer didn't speak for a minute. And the time he took was agonizing.
You forced yourself to look in his eyes, no matter how much every part of your body just urged you to run.

"You don't know anything do you?" He questioned, not meaning it to appear so harsh as it did so.

Something in you snapped. And all your emotions flooded your senses at once, clouding your mind.

"No, Spencer. You're the one who doesn't know anything. For a genius you can be so damn oblivious."

"I'm not" he started to speak but you didn't think you could bare to listen to the rough sounds of his voice any longer.

"I've been in love with you. I've been in love with you, Spencer and you've been too much of an idiot to even notice!"

Your words withdrew the pair of you from time. The room came to a standstill, just you and him.

His mouth opened and closed as he tried to formulate his response.

Suddenly, you were laughing. You laughed even as a stray tear ran rapidly down your cheek.

"It wasn't supposed to be like this. I can't... I can't do this. I'm going to work."

Before he could protest, you threw open the door and rushed out.

You were at an unfair advantage as you ran, the hospital bed trying Spencer down, prohibiting him from chasing after.

But, you could still hear the pitiful cry of his voice down the hall as he yelled your name.

"Monster are real, ghosts are real too. They live inside us and sometimes, they win." Stephen King said that. You were done surrendering yourself to the demons within you, but, where to go from here?
