It was a rainy day outside and I had just gotten into the building. “Aya-chan!” I looked up to see Yuzuru. He gave me the nickname Aya which was fine by me in the beginning. Now, he calls me Aya-chan. I would just call him “Yuzu-kun.” “Did you get soaked from the rain?” he asked me.
I shook my head. “I had an umbrella with me,” I told him. He gave me a smile. “Don’t want to be late for class,” he told me. We walked into the classroom together. Some of the students had gotten used to my presence but, some of the students still didn’t like me.
Classes went by fine. At lunch, we had to eat inside the classroom or the cafeteria. The majority of the students ate in the cafeteria. Yuzuru and I ate in the classroom. “I’m going to go get milk. You want anything?” he asked me. I shook my head. He gave me a nod and walked out of the classroom to get himself milk even though, he was going to get me one too.
After a couple minutes, I walked of the classroom and to the restroom to get some paper towels. I had forgotten to pack some this morning. The first restroom had ran out so I walked to another restroom that was on the other side of the school.
When I came back to the classroom, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Yuzuru’s food was all over the floor. His homework was in shreds. Yuzuru looked in disbelief. As I walked into the classroom, Tenno Hikaru pointed his finger at me.
“She did it before she went out to get paper towels,” he told him. “You are trying to make yourself look innocent,” another student Honda Mori said to me. I shook my head. I started to feel pressure. “I didn’t do anything. I just went out to get paper towels from the girl’s bathroom,” I told them.
Yuzuru was trying to clean his stuff. I tried to help but, he stopped me. “It takes you that long to get paper towels? The restroom is practically down the hallway,” Tenno said as a matter of fact. “There was none in there so I went to get some at the other restroom,” I told him.
I started to have tears in my eyes. I knew that I was right and they were wrong. Other students started to help Yuzuru clean and told me to go away. Yuzuru didn’t even look at me and talked to me at all. I didn’t know what to do.
I just walked out of the classroom until classes started again.
The rest of classes were depressing. I couldn’t even pay attention to the lessons. Mr. Sohma felt bad for Yuzuru so he gave him another day or two to work on his homework. I got called into the principal’s office and my mother was there. Besides what had happen in the classroom today, Yuzuru’s umbrella was cut into shreds too. I told the principal my side of the story but, he didn’t look to convinced.
“I don’t know what to think of this?” mother said with disbelief. In a way, she sounded disappointed. I pretty much zoned out from the conversation because I couldn’t believe what was happening to me. I couldn’t help but to feel that it was my fault.
“All the evidence point to you Ayako. I’m afraid that you will have to be expelled from the school,” Principal Hanajima said.
I felt the warmth drain from my face. Mother looked very disappointed and stressed. I felt very sorry for her. After getting my things from my locker, we walked out of the school and into the car.
