FAULT LINES
who are you without that which you hate?

Abigail Lance has always been the absence of her mother.

She has defined herself by it since she was seven years old and the sharp-eyed woman failed to appear for her birthday party, or any other day that followed for that matter. She isn't sure who she would be if not the antithesis of the one who birthed her; her kindness comes from her mother's cruelty, her loyalty from abandonment, her pride in her powers from a lack of her mother possessing any. Abigail Lance is stubborn — perhaps the sole thing she takes from Dinah Lance's older sister —  and she will not share her mother's fault lines.

But it's not a sustainable state of existence. Living by someone else's limits does not last forever and this is something Abigail learns when she is fifteen years old and meets the Teen Titans: Donna Troy, Wally West, Garth, Constance Black and, perhaps most importantly, Dick Grayson. This is something she understands when she sees Donna Troy bear the name Wonder Girl with no fear of standing in Wonder Woman's shadow and Wally West wield the speedforce without concern for how he compares to the Flash. This is something she forgets when the small group of sidekicks become their own team. (Nothing is as it appears, but Abigail has not learnt this yet.)

Roy Harper also finds himself part of this team, but Roy has been apart of Abigail's life since she was eight and his presence is already a constant. It's already something she trusts. Speedy and Tremor, side by side, is hardly a rare sight along the Star City skyline. Like the sun on the horizon or rain after dark clouds. Roy has been apart of Abigail's life since her half-terrified aunt brought her home to himself and Oliver Queen. The two have each other and it is enough. They have been getting by ever since.

So no longer does Abigail Lance want to be her mother's inversion; she wants to possess herself, carve a fate-ridden path of her own. There is more to life than being the other side of a bitterly-clutched coin. Who is she if not that which she hates?
