...a CAT! A creature sent from the deepest ends of hell! I screamed at the top if my lungs and ran down the stairs into the kitchen.
"what the f*** are you screaming about you mother f***ing w****?" my sister yelled.
"Liz," mom glared at the shadow on the stairway.
"but mom, I was just--" Lizzi pleaded.
"I don't want to hear it. You know how i feel about this subject," mom replied with her hands on her hips.
She turned back to my cowering figure in the corner of the kitchen, beside the fridge.
"darling, what's the matter?" she asked with a frown.
"I s-s-s-saw a-a-a c-ca-ca-cat outs-s-side of my window," I replied, a nervous wreck.
"oh please, a cat? A harmless little kitten?" my sister laughed.
"Liz, do you know what the word 'grounded' means?" mom asked sweetly.
Lizzi nodded and gulped. This was almost enough for me to forget about the cat. Almost. I kept seeing it's emerald eyes and his razor sharp teeth.
"honey, are you okay now?" mom asked, turning her attention back to me.
I nodded mutely and gave a sad little smile.
"good. Now go get dressed, our neighbors are expecting us soon," mom said, turning to the oven and peering at the cookies.
Lizzi and I ran up the stairs and into her bedroom. She took out a knee-length blue dress with white frills and smiled at me mischievously.
"no way in hell," I said, starting to creep away.
