It is night. Éowyn is being treated in the Houses of Healing. Èomer looks on worriedly as Aragorn treats the wound his sister received from killing the Witch-King of Angmar. Slowly, Éowyn awakes.

Aragorn touches her face tenderly knowing that now she will be all right. Both men leave. The woman, her strength returning, rises from her bed & walks towards the window.

Sensing another presence, she turns to see Faramir, second son of the deceased steward, standing there watching her. He gives her a smile.

Cristiel’s eyes open to find herself lying on a soft bed. Slowly she sits up, looking down at herself to discover she had been changed her into a simple white cotton dress. Then she surveyed the room around her.

Feeling a weight on her stomach, she looks down to see Legolas lying there. The elf was sleeping peacefully.

“He’s been there all this time.”

Cristiel turns towards the voice to see Aragorn. The man looks down at the elf on Cristiel’s lap. She asks the man:

“How long have I been sleeping?”

“Sleeping? You were wounded, barely breathing by the time you were brought here. Legolas was scared to death Cristiel.”

The girl looks surprised. She did remember being struck in the side by an orc but she didn’t think it was that bad. She touched her side but the wound was gone. She asks:

“Who healed me?”

At that moment the elf stirred, mumbling softly:

Placing her hands on his head, the girl stroked the elf’s head gently a soft smile on her face. She spoke to him soothingly:

“Shhh. Rest. I am here.”

The elf settled again. Aragorn watches the gentle way the girl handles the elf & says:

“You love him do you not?”

“I care for him greatly. But love? I do not know.”

The man then asks quietly:

“What would you do if there was a choice between your life & his?”

Cristiel looks up at him.

“I would gladly give up my own.”

Then realizing what she had said, Cristiel looks down at Legolas. She brushes a strand of his hair behind his pointed ear & says quietly:

“I do love him. I love him very much.”

Then Aragorn saw her eyes turn sad. Her tone of voice changes & something in it makes Aragorn shiver:

“But he does not deserve the love of a sinner. No. He will love again.”
