Chapter 15: Behind Enemy Lines

“The S.P.A has two main headquarters, the primary one being in New Mexico, just outside of Puente Antiguo and the secondary one being in downtown New York.” Starlie bought up the blueprints and building layout for the S.P.A base here in New York. Clint, Natasha, Sky, Starlie, Steve and I were currently cooped up in one of Tony’s many board rooms on orders to go over the plans for Fury’s latest mission for us. Long story short, we needed the files back.

Starlie continued, “The main frames are all backed up and copied onto portable hard drives which are kept in a basement in New York but there is just too many security risks for you guys to go in and retrieve the files that way. I suggest you disguise yourselves as agents and log into any computer you can and retrieve them that way.”

“How exactly would we sneak in?” Sky asked, “I’m a target, you’re a target, Natasha and Clint are well known assassins and they’ve wanted Noel dead for God knows how long.”

“What?” I asked, frowning. I had no idea I was on anyone’s hit list. Usually you got told to steer clear of agencies who wanted you dead, Clint had a three page list, Natasha’s list was so long they didn’t print it out because it just keeps growing. I’d never done anything to make an agency pissed at me as far as I knew and I didn’t think I’d be on a hit list considering I’d only ever been on three missions, excluding the recent ones with the Avengers.

Sky looked at her lap and Steve cleared his throat, “Sky was an assassin, she was widely known as Cobalt. Her last mission with the S.P.A was to take you out –that was three years ago. She made a different call, lied and said she killed you but then someone higher up found out what she had really done they ordered her brother to take her out, he also made a different call and they’ve been on the run ever since.”

I stared blankly at Sky, she looked incredibly embarrassed and ashamed. I couldn’t believe she’d been sent to kill me, I didn’t understand why –three years ago I’d been in college, I was never involved with S.H.I.E.L.D unless I went in to check up on my brother or Fury came to check up on me.

“Well, I feel kind of flattered.” I shrugged, “Nice to know people who were sent to kill me didn’t. But I owe you.” I looked over at Clint, knowing that he would probably have something to say about this. He definitely wanted to, his face was contorted into a ball of rage, like a wild animal waiting to be let loose. I gave him a look at screamed ‘shut up, not now.’

Thankfully, he let it go and slumped in his chair.

Sky smiled, probably relieved that I wasn’t mad and nodded before changing the subject back to our impending mission. “But how are we going to sneak in?”
