"No, we need all of them that we can get."

"Pfft, yeah not a monster," began Darcy. "Aren't doctors supposed to save people? And monsters kill people? Tell me, Ava, how many people have you killed, huh? I bet it's--"

"Darcy, give it up."

"No. How many people have you killed? I bet it's a lot more than you've saved. But by all means, keep going. At the rate you're going, you'll run out of people soon. Then your precious cure won't be needed. Everyone will be dead anyway."

"Are you sure you don't want us to shoot her?" asked Janson.

Ava glanced at him before answering Darcy. "You don't understand the risks here. You are a child. There is much more happening than what you can comprehend, I can assure you. If you want to think of me as a monster, there's nothing I can do about that. But soon I hope you realise that what we're doing is good. That W.I.C.K.E.D is good."

Darcy could think of a lot of good replies, but she held them in, instead only sending a glare at Ava. She had no doubt that soon, Ava would run out of patience with her and take Janson up on his offer of shooting her.

The woman in white walked further back. "We just need more time."

"More blood." Mary, the woman from earlier who had known Thomas arrived.

"Hello, Mary. I'd hoped we'd meet again. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances."

"I'm sorry about a lot of things too," replied Mary, "but not this. At least my conscience is clear."

"So is mine."

Bang.

Mary's face contorted into a look of shock as she fell forward. Blood spread, all across her abdomen.

Darcy's ears were ringing. She knew people were shouting, but couldn't hear what they were saying. She saw Vince arrive by Mary's side, clutching her. All Darcy could comprehended was that Mary's life was fading. And in a second, she was gone.

Gone. Just like that.

She didn't snap out of her stupor until Thomas shoved a guard out of the way. He held out a stick of dynamite, shouting "Get back! Get back! Stay back. Let 'em go. Let 'em all go!"

"You know I can't do that!" shouted Ava.

"Thomas, please stop," pleaded Teresa. She sounded desperate, afraid. "I made a deal with them, they promised we'd be safe, all of us!"

"What, I'm supposed to trust you now?" said Thomas, his voice shaky.

"It's true, it was her only condition!" added Ava.

"Shut up!"

"Everything can go back to the way it was. Thomas, do you really want all of them to die?"

Thomas looked to all of his friends, even to Darcy which surprised her. She walked over to him. Everyone else followed after her, all standing behind Thomas.

"Do it," she said.

"We're with you, Thomas," added Newt.

"We're ready," said Minho.

"We're not going back there," Thomas told Ava, looking again at the dynamite.

"Thomas..."

Darcy took relish in seeing Ava so desperate and afraid. She was happy that that was the last thing she would see.

"It's the only way."

Darcy felt the bodies around her tense up as Thomas readied himself to send out the explosion.

"Thomas!"

Then came the sound of a truck. It bashed into barrels as it went, avoiding bullets from the guards. It even crashed into another car at one point. And Darcy saw who was driving it.

Jorge.

They just might get out of this.

*A/N: we love some bad writing✌ Also, I went back to school today and this year is gonna be a really busy year, but I didn't get any homework today (thankfully) so I'm gonna try and write a bunch of void and I'm not little so that I can actually update when the work load picks up. And there's only one more chapter left of the scorch trials!*
