I'll post a one shot later but this has just been bugging me so much???

Imma start my saying this is not a hate post. If you ship this then fine go off, but I personally don't like it. It just really makes my blood boil you know?

For some reason the fandom has really been shoving it in my feed recently and like??? Stop plz.

Like as a RIVALRY? MmmmMMMMM LAWLIGHT IS GOOD SHIT AS A RIVALRY. I love their absolute HATRED toward each other, it's so much fun to watch. But as a romance?? Fuck NO.

SO TODAY I PRESENT MY CASE ON WHY LAWLIGHT IS T O X I C! IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

POINT ONE - Physical abuse.

On this account we don't condone abusive ships boi. And what have these noodles done to each other? Yeah, PUNCHED AND KICKED EACH OTHER ABOUT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. If they wanted to, they could literally press charges on each other. ABUSE IS UNHEALTHY- IF YOU SHIP SOMETHING WHERE YOU CONDONE PHYSICAL ABUSE LEAVE MY PAGE.

Sure ok, people have fights. But if you're shipping them as a couple, that would make the fight scene relationship abuse, thus, making it a toxic relationship.

POINT TWO - hatred.

These motherfuckers literally hate each other. That's like one of the biggest plot points in the show, that they hate each other.

Source: the CANON 13th bonus issue of the manga.

You're all forgetting that L is a super secretive person OF COUSE HES GONNA LIE DURING A CASE. He'd do it to protect his identity and further the case in his favour.

"But AUDREY,,, in the L change the world novel, L was all like 'we could have been FRIENDS"

The novel that follows a totally different story line from the original series in which L out-lives Light? Written by a completely different author? Yeah, no. L change the world is a good fuckin story, don't get me wrong. And I'm a copyright way, yes it's canon. It's canon to being an offical death note brand story. But the STORYLINE isn't canon to the OG. Different author = not fully canon.

What Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata write and say is the true canon.

POINT THREE - Light killed L.

What the fuck about murdering someone says 'I love you?'

Only yanderes do that shit, was Light yandere? No, he cares about no one but himself and his mission to become a god.

Point over.

POINT FOUR - sexuality

Now I'm aware that I'm how to read 13, there is a part where the authors say that Light doesn't care for women, which you could interpret as him being gay. Although I'm pretty sure they didn't intend it that way (but the fandom is just like oh yeah lights gayyyy and we all accept that) they meant it as a 'he doesn't care about dating' thing.

So keep that in mind.

About L, I've said this before but I HIGHLY doubt he even thinks about boys. He said I'm canon he could possibly fall for Misa, a FEMALE. So he canonly has some interest in girls. And unless you ship Lawlight there's absolutely nothing to suggest he likes boys.

If he were a real person and was like "yeah I like boys and girls" my L stanning ass would be all like "I STILL LOVE YOU BABY" but come on. This is a crime show, do you really think the authors are thinking about sexuality?

L canonly has at least a little interest in girls, and Light canonly doesn't give a fuck about dating. So they wouldn't even be attracted to each other.

Doesn't mean you can't ship same sex characters that never had an outright sexuality stated, just means it will never be canon.

POINT SIX? IDK WHAT NUMER IM AT NOW - fujos

It's so painfully obvious the ship was sparked by Fujoshis. They saw handcuffs and were like "hand cuffs and two men? K I N K Y"

But with absolutely no backing to the ship, you know what that makes the spark of this ship? Gay fetishisation.

The fujoshis that are shipping people who have a genuine bond are fine. The ones that don't condone abusive or pedophillic ships? Fine.

But seeing two boys, who hate each other and are extremely toxic towards each other and going "two men? GAYYYY" is blatantly fetishising gays in a really harmful way. I'm not saying you can't like Yaoi, I'm saying condoning a ship that is abusive just because it's two men is just as toxic as the ship itself.

I don't want to support a toxic ship that was sparked by toxic people.

POINT SEVEN - "BUT YOTSUBA LIGHT"

Ok I do see what you're trying to say here. When Light lost his memory there was a calmer atmosphere between to two. But remember they Light was still amnesiac when the fight happened, they still didn't like each other. I understand what you're trying to say, but just because they weren't snapping at each other every two seconds doesn't mean there wasn't a rivalry still there.

POINT EIGHT- L's 'friendliness'

I wouldn't call L friendly to Light in the Yotsuba arc, more impressed and manipulative toward him. Even if L hates him, he does fully acknowledge that Light is smart. He knows Light has potential and is capable when his not Kira, and he uses being able to admit that to his advantage.

By coming off as acknowledging, he's trying to give Light the impression that they're on better terms. It's a tactic told to use in kidnapping. If you try and build some form of a bond with the kidnapper, it can be harder for them to hurt you because they now see you as a person. It doesn't always work but that tool is manipulation is what L was trying to do. He'd thinking that if Light sees him as a person, the risk of being hurt by him goes down.

Not to mention building trust means people will admit things easier, and if Light trusted L, he could reveal something.

Obviously those tactics didn't work on Light but that's what he was trying to do. It wasn't a genuine friendliness, it's a manipulation tactic.

L still hates Light, and Light still hates L.

It's just that L can admit Light is smart, and uses that to his advantage.

FINAL POINT NUMBER IDK - Fangirls love vs the canon world.

Now of course to us fangirls, we like the quirky cutie, tired genius persona that L has. And because a lot of us are just as messy in appearance as him because of fan girls liking to stay in and sit in pjs all day, WE find L super fucking hot.

But in canon, in the death note world, he's seen as strange. It's stated in canon that the authors wanted to make him seem weird and unsettling his VA even said so. Alessandro Juliani, describes L as an "enigma, and someone, that if you sat next to on the subway with you would probably move to the other side."

Light isn't us fangirls who are into the insomniac boys. Someone like Light who's well groomed and strict wouldn't even bat an eye at L as an interest. L would be seen as way to messy and strange to him. In fact Light was kind of weirded out the first time he came into contact with L. So was Misa, and the taskforce were pretty shocked to see that someone that high ranking was a total mess barely in his 20s.

Us fangirls look at L as some kind of god because he's our type. To Light, L is just kinda a super smart weirdo that is a known rival to Kira.

IN CONCLUSION.

Not only is this ship impossible in canon, it's abusive.

You can like this ship if you like. Or ship it in an AU context. But accept it's not canon and would never work.

I rest my case.
