Chapter Nine: Rules Broken . . .
After a hideous day of school, I'mglad to get to work, where Marisa is waiting for me. She smiles at me as I walk through, and I can't help but raise an eyebrow, curious of to why she's staring at me.
"Lexie, I have a job for you!" she says as she follows me to the staff room, whereI hang up my thin summer jacket and black side bag.
"Yes?" I ask curiously, shoving my into a ponytail as I stare at her.
"Promise you'll do it no matter what? Don't worry, it's not hard or anything" she says as Ipause.
"Sure?" I reply, a questioning tone running through it as we walk to the counter.
"There's a new guy starting and I need you to train him" she says andI nod. "He seems reallynice and he's quite funny, he had mein stitches through his interview. He says that you go to the same school so Ithought it might be easier for you to train him"
"What's his name?" I ask, praying that Rex hasn't signed up so we canspend even more time together.
"Why don't you ask him yourself? He's now coming" she says, pointing to a boy walking through the door.
The gasp catches in my throat as I stare at the boy, not sure whether to be angry or sad . . . or both! The boy is wearing the black work shirt, his broad shoulders carrying his top firmly over his fit chest. He smiles at me as he walks over, his cropped hair spiked in it's usual fashion. My mouth drops as I look athim, but shut it quickly as he reaches us, trying not to look like an idiot as he smiles at me again.
"So? You know Seth, right?"Marisa asks and I nod, numb from the revelation of my new co-worker. "So, I'll leaveyou two to get started. Good luckon your first day Seth!" Marisa adds, smiling as shegoes to serve some customers.
I stand, dumbstruck, as Seth looks at me quickly before turning to look at the customers, then looking back at me again. I walk into the back room, motioning for him to follow as I try and think about how to playthis. As he walks into the staff room, I shut the door, leaning against it for support at he watches me, a small, nervous smile on his lips as he sits on one of the black, leather chairs. Sighing, I run my hand through my hair and groan.
"You know, you can talkto me, I won't tell anyone and nobody can hear or see us here" he says and I roll my eyes.
"I know that" I sigh and he laughs. "What?" I snap ashe stops, smiling at me.
"Nothing. It's just that . . . I think that's the first time you've spoken to me, even when Casey hadn'tforbidden it" he says and I can't help the smallsmile that plays on my lips.
"You haven't exactly made this whole situation any easier" I sigh and he looks apologetic.
"I need the money" he shrugs. "But I am sorry about this, it was the only placewith decent pay that was hiring"
"S'ok" I lie.
"So, aren't you meant to be training me?" he asks and I nod.
"But don't youdare tell anyone about this or I swear . . ."
"I know! You'll get Casey after me and make my life hell" he sighs and Ismile, shaking my head.
"No, I'll justtell Marisa you're a crap employee" I say and he smirks.
