The Cat With a Feathery Tail -Completed-

Part five

     "Get away! You horrid things!" Mewed Tinker, struggling hard and putting out all his twenty claws at once.

     The cats were so excited that at first they dint hear Tinker mewing. They scratched him hard. Feathers flew off his tail and danced about the lawn.

     "Stop, stop!" Cried Tinker, bitting and scratching. I'm a cat, not a bird! Leave me alone!"

     The four cats leapt off Tinker in surprise. "Good gracious! Its Tinker!" Said Fluffy.

     "What have you dressed yourself up in feathers for?" Said Tibs.

     "Is this a new game or something?" Said Tabby, disgusted.  "What are you lying about the grass dressed up in yellow and green feathers for?"

     "To catch the birds," said poor Tinker, licking his scratches. "You spoilt everything. I think you are silly stupid, unkind things. You gave me a terrible shock when you jumped on me like that and dug your claws into me. Go away. I don't like you."

     The four cats went away, laughing. The blackbird sat on top of the fence and called Tinker.

     "Now you know what a bird feels like when a cat springs on it and digs her claws in! Servers you right, Tinker, serves you right!"

     Tinker felt foolish. He washed himself and pretend to take no notice. But suddenly the little boy to whom Tinker seen the torn feathers, and was very angry.

     "You took them out of my red indian hat!" He cried. "You're a bad, bad cat! I shall smack you!"

     And he did smack Tinker - slap, slap, slap! The surprised cat gave loud meows and ran away to hide. The blackbird sat on the top of thw fence and called the news to all the other birds.

     "The cat getting smacked! Hurrah! The cat's getting smacked! Come and see-ee-ee! Come and see-ee-ee!"

     And they all came to see-ee-ee. Poor Tinker! He never once tried to catch a bird like that!
