"Tell me more about this enver," I said to Alaine Lockwood. She provocatively took off her scarf and looked me straight in the eyes with her piercing violet eyes.
"I'm a witch, not a mind reader."
"Isn't there any way you can find out?" I was desperate to know what was so special about Jayden Paxton. How was it that he was able to defeat my guards without doing much? I had to order my prison guard to starve him in order to drain him of his energy. Paxton was dangerous and I had to keep him under control.
"Why do you want to know so bad?" Alaine was twisting a strand of her purple hair around her finger as she sipped on a glass of wine.
"Because Jayden can be potentially used if a war erupts. We need all the power we have if there is talk of fighting Alpha Titus."
"There are ways that I can find out but for that I need Jayden,"
"Do whatever you want as long as he doesn't die." I told her.
"Jesse, escort Alaine back home and stay with her," I ordered, "make sure she gets everything she needs and make sure no one finds out."
Jesse nodded. Jesse Gold had turned out to be better than some other wolves in my employ and much better than some who had become a part of my family.
"Alexis?" I called out to one of the she-wolves in the house.
"Yes, Liam?" She had been standing behind Nate and Jesse.
"Is Anna feeling any better?" I inquired. My sister had been feeling feverish since the day Cody had run off. It was horrible for her to find out that her mate, her partner for life, had killed our sister-in-law and our Luna. Anna had left Cody but her wolf wouldn't accept it.
For days her wolf had called out to Cody. Most of us could hear it. Max hated it more than anyone could imagine so I had sent Anna to our cottage in the woods. I didn't want Max to react in a way that could potentially harm our sister.
Unfortunately, Anna's fever only got worse at our country cottage so I brought her back. Her wolf had deserted her which was incredibly harmful for her but Max felt a lot better.
I loved my sister more than the world so it was horrible for me to hear Max blame her.
"The little bitch probably helped her murderous husband escape!" Max roared.
"If Anna knew where Cody was, she would have told you." I said although I wasn't so sure of it myself. I couldn't possibly blame her, though. He was her mate. It must have been hard for her to let him go.
"We'll never be able to find that bastard, Liam," Max whispered, "not while his sister is screwing Titus and certainly not while our sister is hiding him!"
"Anna isn't hiding anyone!" I had told him but it was hard to make Max understand.
"We need to do something, Liam," Max said, "we need to attack his territory and claim it and we have to kill him and everyone he loves."
"Yes, but not like this," I rationalized, "Titus's army is a hundred times more powerful than ours. We need to collect an army but we need to make sure he doesn't find out that we're doing so which is going to be damn hard to do."
"Have you talked to Alaine about it?"
"I'm thinking of finding more envers. We will be strategically more powerful if we have mind readers and sight seers amongst us."
"I don't care how you do it, bro but you better do it fast because one of these days, I'm gonna explode and you'll be sorry then."
Max had gotten up and left with that warning of his still echoing in the room. He could potentially harm the entire pack if I didn't do something faster.
And to do something faster, I needed someone as underhanded as an enver. And that's where I needed Jayden.
