"Benjamin. You know this isn't up for discussion." The King droned on, shuffling a few papers that sat in front of him. He had on a red ceremonial suit, someone must have been visiting the palace that day.
"Father, you know I'm not capable of finding a wife." Benji wasn't giving up, but he also didn't want to voice he had an entire makout session with another boy. Hell, he probably wouldn't survive how angry his father would get.
"Your sexuality is not up for discussion!" The King slammed his fist into the table, clearly upset over the current conversation. "You are to find a wife and produce an heir. That is your responsibility."
"I didn't ask for this responsibility." It was always his excuse, but it never worked. It actually made the mood in the air worse.
"Benjamin. You are to leave my room immediately, or there will be a consequence. A physical consequence." He threatened, and with that, Benji scrambled out of the room, the boy's crown almost falling off his head.
His father only put his power against him physically once, and that was when he was about eleven. It started with a slap to the face, but ended with a medium sized scar on his back. It was still there today, a reminder not to cross the King again. His mother never found out, but it was probably for the best. It was one of the main reasons Benji didn't bring Jorge into the conversation. Who knows what could have happened to the other boy.
"Benji!" A voice coming from behind him snapped him out of his trance.
"Camilla, what's up?" Benji said, sliding his hands into his pockets. She must have been in flats, since she was practically in a run with her dress trailing behind her.
"Nothing, just haven't talked to you for a few. How's the fake straight mission going?" She asked, picking up her pace to match his. Benji snorted.
"Not good. You know the gardener I talked to you about?"
"May or may not have stayed with him until midnight last night..." Benji confessed, scratching the back of his neck without making eye contact.
"Benji! Oh my god. I can't tell if I'm disappointed or extremely happy." She was overly excited from just hearing that tiny piece of news.
"Me neither, I think he likes me too? I mean he was disappointed as well when the bell rang out. But I feel like it just complicates things. Like I can't focus my mind on any of the three girls here. All I'm thinking about is him." And Benji wasn't lying. Jorge was all he thought about that morning, but he was forced by everyone around him to be reserved about it. It was a pain.
"I mean, you also don't want to just have him there for your free time and when you get married you just throw him to the side. That'd be shitty, Benji. You can't ask him to be your mistress either. Or mister? I don't even know." She wasn't being mean about it, just making sure Benji had his best intentions in mind.
"Look, I don't know, but I'll figure it out." He took the crown off his head to run his hands through his hair, clearly looking stressed.
"Hey, don't worry too much though. I'm happy for you." She grabbed his hand and pulled the taller boy in for a hug, holding it for awhile.
"Me too." Benji smiled.
