Her tears were a river among the dirt of his hands. The bat of her eyelashes planting seeds that will never bloom.
His hand was the anchor of her emotions and yet, he was scared she'd drown nonetheless.
And drowning, she was.

"Y/N? Y/N?"
You opened your eyes slowly, quickly bringing the back of your hand up to shield yourself from the expected sunlight. But, the room was dark and so was the sky.

"Y/N? Are you alright?"
The shadowy figure illuminated by the hospital light creeping in from the door, revealed to be Garcia.

You untwined your fingers from Spencer's still unmoving ones, only now realizing how stiff your whole body had become.

Standing up to face Garcia, you could bring yourself to speak. Your throat felt dry and unable.
It didn't take any exchange of words for Garcia to envelop you in her arms.

Breathing in the familiar, sweet scent of her, you felt something you hadn't felt in a long time. Comfort.

You clung to her like a small child does to its mother. Everything was peaceful in those few minutes.

Pulling back eventually, you noticed the mark from tears on her sweater.

"I'm sorry Garcia." You managed, voice still thick from crying.

"It's okay, I can just wash it." She brushed off.

"Not the sweater." You interrupted, suddenly finding courage. "Everything. I'm so sorry for everything. I don't want to loose you too."

She took your hands then, holding them almost too tightly.
"You're not going to loose me Y/N. Friends fight. But, we're okay. I promise. And you haven't lost Spencer either. He'll be with you again soon. I swear it."

She left soon after that. Not before telling you that Gideon ordered you to take a few days off and that the nurses still need to do a few checkups on you. And not before reassuring you that everything would be okay.

The hospital felt particularly cold that night. And you felt particularly lonely, watching Spencer's unmoving eyes.
It was hardly appropriate but you did the only thing that seemed to bring you to that feeling Spencer provided; you carefully climbed onto the small hospital bed.
You had to press your cold body against his warm one to stay on the bed.
You held his hand and memorized his heart beat.
When you felt fingers squeeze yours at some early hour, you couldn't distinguish if you'd been dreaming or not. But, it was a sign of hope.

Aristotle said "It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light."
Perhaps you were finding your light again.
